David R. Porthouse

Qualification Summary:

I have created new and valuable markets for every business I have been a part of. This growth has

come not just from sales, although that area has always been exceptional, but primarily from product

development, building new markets and new business categories. I have been fortunate to assemble

great teams across these enterprises, both client-facing, but also the full range of design, engineering,

vendor partnerships and formal and informal focus groups, enabling them to move to the next level.

My greatest strength has been to combine a high level of technical and creative thinking with results-

driven practices, delivering product, engineering, sales and thought leadership to my employers. My

satisfaction comes from helping companies take that next step.

Accomplishments:

I built the team which took Champion Boats from one of 40+ regional competitors to a top 3

company in its sector. Grew distribution from 13 states to 44, plus 6 significant international

markets. During a period where industry sales were down in units, I took Champion from $12MM

to $51.5MM in sales with 10+ years of double digit sales and profit growth.

Staffed and trained Champion’s nationwide sales representative force, as well as building the

engineering/manufacturing teams that redesigned and redefined our core offerings and pushed

into coastal salt water/blue water, flats and northern multi-species markets.

Led the acquisition of one of Champion’s major regional competitors in Sarasota and used the

purchase to accelerate our rapid entry into the fast growing saltwater fishing market

At MFR, a large manufacturing and distribution company, I restructured the sales programs, dealer

support, redesigned inventory management, IT and purchasing processes, all of which supported

rapid expansion, both through organic growth and acquisitions.

Built the teams at MFR needed to achieve these goals, which included 20% higher net margins, a

25% increase in turns, record sales ($16MM+), profits ($1.1MM) and reduction in inventories and

of loss/write-offs to zero. Higher enterprise value realized in the profitable sale of the firm

Developed the sales and marketing plans, as well as products offerings for Formula/Sponsorship

Science - from its initial start up to its current status as a global supplier of Sports sponsorship,

marketing & research technologies. During this period revenue grew at 30+% growth rate, from

$200,000 into $8MM+ in the first five years
