With this agency I worked at a Doctors office: weighed patients, took vitals, complaints, vaccinations/allergy shots, EKGs, all procedures like helping the Dr with suturing lacerations. Organize files for that day appointments which included finding the patient chart, making sure labs were up to date and calling lab if labs weren't sent yet. Check the fax machine for new labs/tests, reading the labs, finding the patient chart, putting a note in file and on front of chart that new labs with results, if an appointment wasn't set up with patient then make the call for patient to come in to see Dr regarding results of tests/labs. Organize, cleanup, order supplies, put supplies in each examination room.

Also with this agency I worked a Quest Diagnostics with is a specimen collecting office: Patient come in with Dr's orders for labs or tests to be done. Example: urine test, blood tests, & drug screening test for employers. (These are just some of the test that were available) I had to collect samples with included venipuncture/phlebotomy for blood tests. I needed to know which tubes were used for each test for blood. (CMP, PT etc..) After collection of samples for that patient, label the test tubes or collection bottles, I would then have to centrifuge the samples that were necessary, also put some samples in refrigerator, when lab currier was to come get samples ready them for transport, and putting the refrigerated samples on dry ice.

Ran my shift which was the morning from 5am to 1pm for 6 days a week. Before I was a shift manager I had to work as a regular employee in all positions (cashier/order taker, grill, prep of food, cooking foods etc) I took tests to get certification for safe food prep (knowing the correct temperature of foods to be served). After being trained for 1 month & taking safe food test I became a shift manager. Shift manager duties: making sure all equipment is working properly, testing foods to see if temps are within the safe food range, organize/run 10-15 employees for shift (making sure employee take breaks & ran their positions correctly), before shifts began, making sure deposits and money in safe and registers were correct. Knowing the procedures to make each product. Knowing when food had to be discarded. I had to test food twice in my shift for morning foods and then for lunch/dinner foods. During my shift, I would take drops of money for each register, count, add to computer for my deposit. Just before next manager arrived I would check out each register and add this money to my deposit. After next shift manager or Store manager arrived I would make the deposits at the bank. I ordered supplies/food products, inventoried, & made sure there was no out dated supplies and made sure products/foods were labeled correctly after employees put them away (back in walk in refrigerator or walk in freezer).

I worked on the Medical Surgical Floor (heart bypasses, heart values, lung surgery, dialysis with kidney transplants) but when needed floated to other Floors.

Duties: reading and caring out Dr orders (making sure orders were correct), monitoring patients with EKG's and/or heart monitors, If a patient had A-fib or other heart would carry out procedures/protocols with ACLS/CPR/Code Blue. If something happened to a patient would follow all procedures and protocols including calling Drs for orders. Charting vitals and any other procedures or labs/test that came back after printing out copy of test or labs for chart. I worked most of my time with this employer on graveyard, 7pm to 730am with included charting for 2 shifts. Other procedures were: giving medications (oral, IV, injections, IV push meds), changing dressings, removal of staples/sutures and chest tubes (removal of chest tubes was the only duty I had to have an RN in the room). I was certified by the hospital to do all duties of an RN. There was some protocols for procedures that an RN would have to sign off that these duties were carried out by me. Weighing patients and helping them to get up and walking. Explaining procedures to patients. Collecting samples of blood and urine etc for regular tests or pre-op test. Getting a patient ready for pre-op procedure. Making sure all consent forms were filled out. Monitoring patients for input and out put (fluids in and out) with BMs. Everything that was monitored or done had to be charted in the computer for the patient charts. Keeping up my continue educations hours, ACLS certification/CPR, and the hospital procedures/protocols were checked & tested. There are other normal duties a LPN would do and if requested with furnish them.

I followed their procedures and what a LPN duties were: taking report from prior nurse for patients on my floor/wing, making sure the CNA's for my shift were making their rounds and taking the patient vitals. Giving medications at times prescribed by the doctor, charting patient procedures that were done with vitals. Doing procedures like dressing changes or tube feedings etc.
