My background is in the diverse and challenging construction industry, which has given me the opportunity to acquire

key leadership skills at different stages in my career. I am a business manager who takes decisive action, shaping and

record with a number of fast track promotions to date.

I have excellent communication skills and I am comfortable in communicating with Managers and Directors both

EARLY CAREER 1994 - 2003

From 1994 -1997, I served a Surface Operators apprenticeship which involved extensive experience in all aspects of

highway construction from mobile plant to methods of pavement work. This involved working within a pavement

squad on a daily basis whilst continuing my part time education at college. In 1997 having past my exams, I was

promoted to Trainee Asphalt Supervisor and was responsible for the management of Pavement gangs on nume rous

minor projects for both the Public and Private Sector. In 1999, following the merger of the Tilcon and Tarmac

companies I was promoted to Asphalt Supervisor and widened my portfolio of works by managing several Local

Authority Maintenance programmes in Northern England. In 2001, I was promoted to Site Agent and become

responsible for the Project Management of many projects throughout Northern England for both Private and Public

Sectors including the Highways Agency Trunk road & Motorway Reconstruction/Resurfacing projects and Airfield

pavement construction and maintenance works.

CONTRACTS MANAGER

In December 2003 I was appointed Contracts Manager, with responsibility of managing 12 surfacing gangs

throughout Northern England and Cumbria. I developed a focused operations team which improved standards of

SHE, Cost control and Quality. Integral member of the senior management team which improved the portfolio of the

business, increased and sustained the workload by 30%. In 2006, my excellence in my role was recognised and

rewarded when I was invited to attend the prestigious Anglo American Emerging Leaders Development Programme.

Highlights

Change Management, restructured the Operations team and reduced headcount by 20%

Refocused Capex by selling unproductive plant, and purchasing new technology.

Successfully managing Tender processes as part of a team to increase the business unit workload and profile

Introduced forecasting tools, both short & long term.

CONTRACTS MANAGER 2007 – 2010

In September 2007, I was appointed Contracts Manager at Tarmac Middle East based in Dubai. The focus of the

appointment was to improve the business unit operationally in order to improve standards and performance on SHE,

Finance and Quality, to introduce and monitor company strategies and policies in the Middle East Business. To

become more aligned with our customer needs, develop and build upon working relationships with in the UAE.

Highlights;

Inherited a dispirited business unit, with a poor problem-solving record, lack of customer responsiveness,

poor direction and focus, no time management or planning, and a culture of non-responsibility. Made a series

of actions to change the business unit.

Expansion of business by 50% in first year

Recruitment drive to expand entire Middle East business by 50%, this involved recruitment of operatives in

India for Quarrying, Production, Technical & Operational units.

Introduction of new IMS system. Implemented a simplified system of procedures and responsibilities.

Refocus on Capex and introduction of new pavement technology.

Developed and implemented new KPI’s for monitoring business performance.

Helped reduce debtor days by more than 50%

In 2008 Tarmac had undertaken a joint venture with Midmac in Qatar based in Doha and traded under the name

Midmac Tarmac. Midmac are an established contracting company in Qatar but required a partner in developing a

successful asphalt business in the Qatari market which was showing huge growth potential. In September 2009 I was

asked by Tarmac Snr Management to assist the Midmac Tarmac JV team in developing the business whilst still

carrying out my duties in Dubai for a period of 9 months.

Highlights;

Time Management – I was required to spend 2 days in Qatar per week as well as successfully carrying out my

duties in Dubai.

Introduction of an IMS system. Implemented a simplified system of procedures and responsibilities.

Developed an operations team in line with the business strategy at the time.

Successfully executed the first major project for the business - Ras Abu Aboud North & South Extension Road

with a value of $15mill.

Sharing of knowledge and best practise from other business units and implemented in the JV Business.

BUSINESS UNIT MANAGER 2010 – PRESENT

In January 2010, I was promoted to my current role which I have been successfully executing to date. I have full Profit

and Loss responsibility for the Business Unit which has 100+ Managers, Engineers, Staff and employees, all with

differing cultures and nationalities.

Some of the key outputs of the role are to ensure involving and developing internal stakeholder relationships to give a

line of sight in order to give best opportunity to reach and maximise objectives. To fully understand the requirements

of external stakeholders in particular, customers and supply chain partners, to deliver value and achieve goals and to

build successful and sustainable relationships. The role is pre-dominantly customer facing with a focus on business

development through a number of strategies such as client seminars and visits in order to raise awareness of the brand

and the resources and capabilities that may bring value to their projects.
