Objectives: I am broadly interested in production of microbial biomass for animal feed through

fermentation, studying the role of micro-nutrients, enrichment of feed resources with micro-

nutrients, phytochemicals, and other feed additives to improve the growth performance, meat

quality, antioxidant capacity, and immunity in farm animals. The ultimate aim is production of

better and good quality meat for humans.

RESEARCH PROGRAM

Production of single cell protein in Koji making fermentor through solid state fermentation by

using fungal Arachniotus sp., and Candida utilis and its biological evaluation in broiler chickens.

Solid state fermentation is a useful technique for protein enrichment of rice bran and can be

used as an ingredient in poultry rations. Determination of the minerals status of canal irrigated

zones of Punjab, Pakistan that included analysis of macro and micro minerals in water, soil,

different seasonal fodders, milk, and serum of different animal species in these areas of Punjab,

Pakistan.

CURRENT RESEARCH ACTIVITIES

Study the effects of different dietary antioxidants (minerals and vitamins) on growth

performance, meat quality, antioxidant capacity, oxidative stability of chicken meat during

storage. Recently, study the effects of different selenium sources on thyroid hormones,

expression of hepatic mRNA GPX4 and DOI1 in LPS challenged broiler chickens. In addition, the

role of different inorganic and organic selenium sources on immunity in LPS challenged broiler

chickens. Study the effects of linseed oil, palm oil alone or in combination on meat quality,

meat antioxidant enzymes and lipid metabolism in broilers chickens under heat stress, effects

of dietary L- arginine supplementation in intrauterine growth retarded piglets, effects of

glutamine supplementation on the immune status in weaning piglets with intrauterine growth

retardation and effects of feeding fermented Ginkgo biloba leaves on small intestinal

morphology, absorption and immunomodulation of early lipopolysaccharide challenged chicks

at Nanjing Agriculture University, China. Effect of different natural coloring pigments on

antioxidant capacity and immunity in different cell lines, such as IEC-6 cells, CaCO2 cells (in vitro

studies in chicken’s RBC, and muscle cells) and as well as in chickens.
