ORGANISATIONAL EXPERIENCE WITH NOTABLE ACCOMPLISHMENTS

October 2010 till date:

Presently working with M/s ABB Limited as Asst. Vice President (Power System) and

Group/Vertical head for Power projects 600MW and above and responsible for complete project

management for executing Electrical balance of plant facilities for :-

a) 2x600MW Thermal Power project for M/s Coastal Energen Pvt. Ltd., Tuticorin.

b) 400 KV GIS for Coastal Energen Pvt. Ltd. comprising of 6 Bays.

c) 2x800MW Thermal Power project for APGENCO through Tata Project Limited coming up

at Krishnapattanam.

d) 2x660MW Thermal Power Project for M/s NCC Ltd., Hyderabad.

e) 2x210MW Thermal Power Project for Surana Power Projects, Chennai.

Current responsibilities include:-

Ensure completion of the project within budgeted cost estimate & project schedule while

improving the profit margins estimated at the time of receiving order inclusive of Risk

Management.

Leading a team of 25 engineers and responsible for executing Electrical Balance of plant for Coal

based power project of capacity 2x600MW,2x800MW,2x660MW,2x210MW Thermal Power

project for Coastal Energen, APGENCO through Tata Project Limited, NCC Ltd. and Surana

Power Projects Ltd. coming up at Tuticorin, Krishnapattanam, Nellore and Raichur respectively.

Monitoring the project in terms of schedule and cost.

Approving the Project Master Schedule prepared as per the Contract guidelines as per

PERT/CPM technique. Providing guidance in developing the progress calculation sheet.

Analyzing the major scope of work (as per the Contract) and discussing with disciplines for

criticalities.

Approving the Purchase Request (PR) released on receipt of Technical Engineering specification

from Engineering.

Discussing with vendors and nominating expeditors for manufacturing updates.

Nominating the team for Invoice release to Customer and collection of the payment. Also to

approve the BBU based on which the team shall be guided for raising the Invoice.

Implementing a periodic MIS reporting and Claim Management Procedures.

Making correspondences with client to build Customer relationship and sort out any disputes

(technical or commercial).

Responsible for Project Cost control and analysis

Responsible to control on site activities for erection progress and resolving site discrepancy

reports with engineering. Coordinating with Procurement department for shortage damage report

from site.

through Personnel Department, as and when required.

The scope of work for the M/s Coastal Energen, APGENCO, M/s NCC Ltd. includes Supply,erection, testing and commissioning of 400KV GIS/AIS Switchyard, transformer yard (which

includes 315/250MVA Single phase units Generator transformer, 100/50MVA Station

transformer, 75/45 MVA Unit Transformer, 16 MVA Unit auxiliary Transformer and Service

Distribution Transformer),HV/MV/LV Switchgear,24KA Generator Isolated phase bus duct,

SPBD, NSPBD, entire interplant HT/ LT/Control Cabling, Battery& Battery Charger, UPS, PA

System, Earthing and Lightning Protection system, Complete Plant Illumination ( Both Indoor &

Outdoor), Plant Communication and PA system.

Notable Accomplishment:-

2x600 MW Coastal Energen TPP:-

100% engineering is completed & procurement action for more than 90% of Equipments is

accomplished in just 8 months period.

66% of total order value is executed by means of timely delivery of GIS equipments, 250 MVA

Generator transformers, ST,UT, service Transformer,HT,LT cables,MV switchgear, battery,

battery charger etc. by maintaining the profit margins intact and also improving the margins by

engineering Optimizations, Vendor negotiations, controlling man hour deployment,reducing

wastage and pilferage of material.

More than 60% Site execution work is completed since release of partial fronts two months back.

2x800MW, APGENCO,:-

Startup power commissioned along with 11KV and 3.3KV system. Commissioning of 0.415 KV

water treatment plant, FOPH, Fire water System, Coal handling system, Illumination work etc.

under progress and Unit 1 is in advanced stage of synchronization.

Worked with M/s Reliance Energy Limited for its EPC Division as General Manager (Electrical)

posted at Sasan (M.P).

Was Package Owner for BTG-Electrical and responsible for Electrical

Erection/testing/commissioning work of BTG package of 6x660 MW Ultra Mega Power Project.

Responsible for review of DBR, tender documents, Engineering Drawings etc.

Managing Construction Contractors at site for execution of Electrical works as per scope and

maintaining Quality as per approved Field quality Plan while maintaining safety of man & machine

having the top most priority.

The Job Profile mostly included following:-

Assisting Project Director in ensuring that the Project is commissioned in time.

Erection and commissioning of all electrical equipments pertaining to Boiler, Turbine, TG

and other Auxiliaries.

PROJECT PHASE:

Assignment Handled: 2x125MW Surat Lignite Power Project

Have been a part of Project Management Team and have worked from owner’s side for timely

completion of 2x125MW Surat Lignite Power Plant.

Accomplishment is as under:-

- Coordinated for preparing project report in tune with the requirements of Central Electricity

Authority, New Delhi as per the Basic Engineering done by M/s Tata Consulting Engineers,

Bangalore.

- Interfaced with Water Resource Department, Environment department, Central pollution

control Board, Gujarat Electricity Board for necessary approvals and sanctions.

- Was responsible for procurement of following Main equipments inclusive of review of DBR &

Specification, preparation of TER, Techno-commercial evaluation of offer considering

technical & commercial loading and putting up recommendations to Contract & Commercial

Cell :-

Switchyard equipments Viz. 220KV class SF6 Circuit Breakers, Isolators, CVT, Current

Transformers, Lightning Arrestors, Insulators, Hardware’s etc.

10KA generator Isolated Phase Bus duct.

OPERATION & MAINTENANCE PHASE

After commissioning of both 125MW units and declaration of commercial operation, I was

responsible for Electrical maintenance of plant and the accomplishments during O&M phase is

as under:-

- Finalization of Annual Electrical Maintenance Contract for main plant and BOP.

- Coordinated efforts for smooth implementation of AMC’s.

- Co-ordinating effective execution of Annual Maintenance Contracts and Annual Service

contracts by proper planning & scheduling of activities during Annual shut down and carrying

out day-to-day maintenance of Electrical System of 2 X125 MW CFBC thermal power plant.

- Successfully maintained Power Systems viz. 220KV switchyard, EHV transformers, 6.6KV

HT power Switchboards, Cabling Network, Distribution transformers, 415V LT switchboards,

Earthing equipments, 6.6KV squirrel cage /slip ring induction HT motors, actuators, Valves,

6.6KV overhead lines.

- Directed the testing of protective relays and co-ordinated the relay settings.

- Finalized annual rate contract for servicing of 6.6KV SF6 Breakers/ vacuum circuit

breakers/contactors, LT Air circuit breakers, Battery Capacity test, Battery Chargers, 6.6 KV

HT Motor Overhauling and rewinding of 415V LT motors, Hot Line washing of 220 KV

Switchyard equipments.

- Developed a strategy for import substitution of spares through indigenous supply rather than

export orientation.

- Developed methodology of recording Equipment History of all preventive activities carried out

on various Electrical apparatus, which has helped in root cause analysis of recurrent defects

and thereby have reduced equipment/system downtime.

- Provided technical service for Developing Workshop to carry out overhauling of LT motors,

Actuators etc.

- Consistently affecting modifications in the system based on feedback received from

operations department to reduce downtime.

- Conducting Energy Audits and implementing various projects for energy savings.

Installed capacity in Year 2001-2002 to 10.29% in the year 2004-2005.

- Streamlined the operation of 6.6KV overhead line feeding power to Captive mines which had

frequent tripping on earth fault.

- Streamlined the operation of 220KV Switchyard which had frequent failure of insulators due

to low creepage distance and dusty environment. The failure resulted into total generation

loss & heavy penalty as per Power purchase Agreement with State Electricity Board.

- Identification of Critical, Insurance and non-moving spares and inventory control.

- Co-ordinating statutory compliance of the Electrical system as per the state Electrical

inspectorate.

- Co-ordinating Condition monitoring &Predictive maintenance of HV & EHV Electrical

equipments.
