Brief about organization

The National Institute of Oceanography (NIO) is a research institute which

work under CSIR, this institute has grown today into a large laboratory at

international level. The main aim of the institute is to do research,

observing & understanding of sea around us. The major areas of research are

Biological, Chemical, Geological, Geophysical & Physical, added to this

Marine Instrumentation & Archaeological are some additional areas. In

addition to basic research, the institute also carries out applied research

sponsored by the industry. This study includes oceanographic data

collection, environmental impact assessment and modeling to predict

environmental impact. The interference from this research institute has

been reported in about 5000 research articles. The institute also provides

consultancy on a number of issues including marine environmental protection

and coastal zone regulation. NIO also serves as an advance center of

education in ocean sciences for under graduate & post graduate student.

Core competencies

5 years full time experience with NIO in ICP-MS Laboratory as Project

Assistant. Specific Knowledge of Geological sample digestion/preparation

for analytical instruments like ICP-MS, Coulometer and Laser Particle Size

Analyzer (LPSA) and its operation. More than 1000 geological samples has

been digested & analyzed till now by using ICP-MS. 900+ Samples analyzed

for Total inorganic carbon (TIC) by using Carbon Coulometer and

approximately 150 samples analyzed for Particle sizes by using Laser

particle size analyzer.

. Performing laboratory operations related to ICP-MS, Coulometer & Laser

Particle Size Analyser with good laboratory techniques / procedures

and with high accuracy and precision. Also having good knowledge of

working procedure, principle & Sample Preparation for XRF, ICP-OES &

IRMS.

. Basically involved in the Digestion of Sediments, Nodules, Rocks,

Pumice, Certified reference material (CRM), Multi element standards,

Tune solutions & Blanks for the ICP-MS analysis.

. Including sub sampling (1-2 cm) core cutting of full length core,

treating it for salt free, carbonate free and organic carbon free.

Same will be given for XRF analysis for major elements and ICP-MS

analysis.

. Expert in preparing samples (Acid Digestion), standards and blank

(Geological & Water) for the analysis of Trace, Ultra trace and REE

elements by using ICP-MS analytical instrument.

. Intermediate knowledge of operating and maintaining ICP-MS Instrument

(Thermo Fisher Scientific X Series-II).

. Excellent Knowledge of operating & maintaining of Coulometer (UIC

CM5130) for analysis of Calcium Carbonate (TIC) in Sediments.

. Good knowledge of preparing samples, standard, blank and acidification

Module required prior to Coulometer analysis.

. Intermediate knowledge of operating Laser Particle Size Analyzer

(MALVERN Mastersizer 2000) to find the Grain sizes of the Core

Sediments.

. Knowledge of sample preparation for Laser Particle Size Analyser

(LPSA) like sieving and ultra-sonication of sediments.

. Calibrating and maintaining various analytical tools and instruments

used by laboratory and institutional personal.

. Maintaining accurate written Logbook records for all laboratory

processes, experimental trials and routine instrument maintenance and

calibration tasks.

. Preparing basic technical reports, graphs and charts as necessary to

further document laboratory work.

. Responsible for planning of raw materials & other materials like

Chemicals, Gas Cylinders & Lab apparatus required for the digestion,

Coulometer, LPSA & for ICP-MS analysis.

. Also involved in handling & maintaining of Fume Hood Laboratory,

Laminar Flow, Acid/Chemicals & Reagents, Water systems, Clean room and

Air Handling Unit (AHU).

. Providing guidance & training of sample preparation, its protocol &

Laboratory Procedure to the Dissertation Students, & other candidates

approaching for project/sample analysis at the institute from various

universities of India and abroad.

. Ability to work well in individual capacity as well as in team. Strong

Computer, Scientific and Organizational skills.

. Achieving the daily, monthly & annual targets related to the project

Finolex group of companies. Company has been awarded 'SUPERBRAND' for 2008.

The company manufactures world class fibre optic cables, which are used for

high tech telecommunications and transmissions, these cables are

manufactures both in dielectric and armoured versions from 2 fibers to 288
