Art Director/Graphics Manager for Reed Business Information

Originally hired to launch SMART Computer and Software Retailing, a trade publication for the computer software industry. Worked with

the editorial, sales and marketing staff over a three-month period of time to create this publication, design, launch and brand it. Served as

Art Director for Retail Ideas, SOHO Today and Home Accents Today, all publications devoted to the furniture industry. Served as the

Art Director for Kids Today (1998-2009). This trade magazine was published monthly with an editorial staff of three persons. Solely

responsible for assigning all photo shoots, providing design and layout for the entire publication. Responsible for the production of computer-generated art and detailed business graphics using Adobe Illustrator. Worked directly with the Production Manager to preflight pages and prepare final pdfs for printing. Photographed product as needed. Successfully redesigned Kids Today as it moved from our New York to Greensboro office. Managed the second redesign and conversion to production utilizing Adobe InDesign. Managed the transition in archiving to a content management system. Prepared pages for elogic to run on the Kids Today web site. Produced and art directed daily trade show issues for key markets in the Juvenile industry. Produced the Kids Today Daily, a publication for the ABC Juvenile Industry trade show held annually in

Las Vegas. Served as staff photographer for the annual Kids Today Conference. Worked diligently at this event with the editorial staff and sales team to create a dynamic climate for attendees and strived to promote the Kids Today brand.

Art Director, COMPUTE magazine 1990-1994

COMPUTE Publications International Ltd./General Media Inc., Greensboro, NC 27408

Art Director of COMPUTE magazine, a 256 page monthly publication distributed internationally, with a circulation of over 300,000.

Managed a four person art staff which consisted of assigning monthly features, columns and projects for design and illustration. Supervised the flow of editorial from design conception to final editing and preparation for color separation. Designed and directed all cover shoots. Completed two successful redesigns of the magazine with the art staff. Managed the conversion from mechanical to electronic publishing. Produced and designed all layouts using Quark Xpress and Photoshop. Matched editorial instructions with effective design solutions to

accentuate editorial content and enhance readability. Coordinated prepress production schedules with the Production Manager to insure color quality and the most cost efficient film preparation. Worked closely with the Executive Graphics Director and the marketing and circulation departments, to produce a product that was informative, entertaining, and designed to meet the demands of our audience.

Associate Art Director, COMPUTE magazine 1989-1990

Worked with the Art Director to decide presentation of editorial. Responsible for designing feature articles and key sections of the magazine. Commissioned original illustration and photography for feature articles. Created computer generated spot art and graphics. Supervised the flow of editorial through the art department. Implemented a more detailed system for tracking editorial from art through the production

process and saved additional costs for last minute changes. Worked closely with the Production Manager to develop prepress production schedules for the art staff in order to meet extremely tight deadlines.

Graphic Art Supervisor, COMPUTE magazine 1986-1989

Designed features, columns, programming sections, ads, and promotionals for the magazine. Responsible for organizing assignments received from the Art Director and determining the best schedule and artist for each project. Supervised the art staff in technical layout and preparation for prepress. Trained and supervised the freelance artists.
