Academic Project (Bachelor of Engineering): “Design and Fabrication of a Cooling System of a FSAE Race Car”

Description: The power produced by engine is utilized only upto one third of its maximum value. One third of the power needs to be

dissipated by the cooling system and one third goes to the exhaust. This project deals with the design of an efficient cooling system

which is capable enough to dissipate the heat which is generated by the engine and work effectively in all the weather condition.

Academic Project (Diploma): “Redundant Braking System”

Description: T his project consists of implementation of two different types of brakes with different levers of each of

t he brake in a single wheel rim (rear wheel). The project finds its application in motorbikes. The focus is to provide a

g ood security to the passengers in case one of the two brakes fails.

Work Experience:

Orion Racing India 2012-2014

Positions held:

Cooling System Head 2014

Team Member, Cooling 2012-2013

International student design team participating in a Formula Racecar competition called Formula Student Germany, organized by

Formula SAE, under the umbrella organization SAE International. Each year we design and fabricate a Formula styled racecar wherein

all the engineering aspects learnt are put to test. Team management, corporate relations and technical knowhow is what we are

groomed about.

Projects:

>Design & Fabrication of an Efficient Cooling System for a Race car

Based on theoretical heat load calculations (NTU Method), the radiator specifications were decided.

Instead a conventional single pass horizontal radiator used in the previous years, a dual core vertical radiator was manufactured to increase the

efficiency and compactness of the system.

The coolant flow rate and the temperature range for cooling fan operation was determined by on track testing

of the vehicle.

The ECU controlled the flow rate on the basis on engine rpm and vehicle speed.

>Redundant Braking System

Taking the safety of the passengers commuting on a motorbike into consideration this project was designed.

It consists of a disc brake and a drum brake fitted on the rear wheel because most of the accidents occur due to failure of rear

brakes which is why both the brakes are fitted on the rear wheels.

The drum brake is primary brake and the lever is foot operated while the disc brake is secondary and is hand operated along with its

connection to the front wheel disc brakes.

If the drum brake fails disc brake can be operated and is effective during emergency braking and vice a versa
