Character Recognition is one of the most interesting and challenging topics in

automatic document analysis and recognition. Character recognition process

involves converting scanned images of machine-printed or handwritten text which

may include numerals, letters and symbols into a computer-process able format.

The main business and industrial applications of character recognition in the

last forty years have been in the form of bank check reading, postal address

reading and so on. By supporting these applications, recognition capability has

expanded in multiple dimensions: mode of writing, scripts and types of

documents. In recent years character recognition has been greatly developed

because of the prevalence of internet and multimedia techniques.
