Responsibilities

A procurement supervisor manages a procurement group of contracting specialists or buyers. The supervisor

is responsible for business operations of the procurement division, branch or section by reviewing procurement

contracts, purchase requisitions and creating request for proposals for goods and services. The procurement

supervisor also monitors excess and obsolete costs. If the procurement supervisor is employed by a logistics

function such as a warehouse distribution center, he could be working with other logistical functions such as

receiving, storage and issue and inventory to determine the status of products in relation to cost.

The general duties of a purchasing supervisor are to coordinate activities of personnel engaged in contract

negotiation, buying and selling of equipment materials and services. The supervisor conducts interviews and

hires staff and monitors staff training programs. The procurement supervisor approves vendor relationships or

can suspend those relationships if vendors are overpricing or conducting unfair negotiations. The supervisor

must develop contract instructions for terms of sale and develop policies and procedures for procurement

clerks.
