PIPING MATERIALS ENGINEER

Professional experience of 7 years in the oil & gas and petrochemical

domains, as a Piping Materials Engineer. I have acquired proficiency in the

various facets of piping materials engineering, by having worked in a range

of significantly large scale Detail Engineering (EPC) projects.

Technical competence:

. Piping design codes & standards: Adept at industry piping design codes &

standards such as ASME, ASTM, API, BS, MSS-SP, NACE and PIP, applicable

to process plant piping.

. Piping Material Specifications: Create / determine piping class

specifications according to ASME B31.3, relevant ASME dimensional and

pressure-integrity standards, with respect to given fluid classification

and base material requirements.

. Valves & Valve Material Specifications: Comprehensive knowledge of gate,

globe, check, ball, butterfly & other special valves- Preparing valve

specifications/ datasheets; reviewing valve GA drawings from vendors.

. Calculations:

. Pipe wall thickness calculations: Thorough experience in performing &

checking calculations for pipe wall thickness, using both computer-

aided and manual design techniques.

. Vacuum thickness calculations: Corroborate wall thickness for pipes

under external pressure, for the full/partial vacuum conditions.

. Underground pipe thickness calculations: Perform calculations for

underground lines.

. Branch reinforcement calculations: Verify branch reinforcement

requirements based on ASME B31.3 calculations & subsequently formulate

branch tables.

. Specialty Items: Thorough knowledge of piping special items like

strainers, steam traps, sample coolers, flame arrestors, safely shower/

eye washes, sight glasses, hoses & hose connectors,

. Metallic/ Non-metallic Piping: In addition to the customary metallic

piping (CS, SS, AS), have experience with non-metallic piping systems

such as RTR (GRE, GRP).

. Line Lists data: Prepare Line List, complete with all Engineering Data

like radiography, LP/MP tests, PWHT etc. Calculation of hydrostatic test

pressure for each line based on ASME B31.3 & the line design conditions

from Process.

. Material Take Off/ Bill of materials: - Confident in leading and

undertaking piping bulk & in-line accessory MTO's. Appreciate the

importance of various stages of MTO and accuracy needed to support

project cost estimates. Application of contingency percentage (bump),

based on the stage & quality of the MTO, to determine the quantity of

material to be requisitioned.

. 3D support (PDS inputs): Specialist knowledge in materials database

management and material control with 3D CAD systems like PDS.

. Material/ Purchase Requisitions: Prepare Technical purchase specification

to support RFQ's and PO's for piping Bulk materials & specialty items.

Capable of generation and issue of requisitions, and management and

control of its changes including quantities.

. Technical Bid evaluations: Experience in technical bid evaluation of

piping vendor quotations. Capable of giving technical recommendation of

suppliers for the bulk piping materials, valves and special piping items.

. Vendor Drawing Review: Reviews Vendor Drawings for bulk items like valves

and various specialty items like strainers, steam traps, sample coolers,

safety showers etc.

. Piping Insulation & painting: Experience in the development of Painting,

Insulation and Coating & Wrapping specifications.

. Experience in producing Piping Standard Details for the Piping Layout

group. Core competency in process/utility P&ID's and plant layouts.

. Adequate exposure to adopt a practical approach to piping material

problems with familiarity of the requirements/interactions with other

engineering disciplines and site.

. Fine exposure in holding techno-commercial meetings with national &

international vendors of repute.

Detailed Engineering Projects:

Title: Clean Transportation at Riyadh Refinery Project

Owner: Saudi Arabian Oil Company - Saudi ARAMCO

Licensor: Axens & UOP.

Highlights: Challenging experience working on this very old brown

field project that has multiple units built by various EPC

contractors & licensed by diverse process licensors.

Currently working as the main Piping Material Engineer for

this project.

Thorough exposure in working with Aramco Standards- SAMSS,

SAES, SAEP, IR 175 inspections, NMR's and other Armaco

project specific requirements.

Preparation of Piping specification, taking into

consideration the existing multiple specifications already

in use in the existing plant. The new specification is

developed very carefully to take into account tie-ins with

existing plant.

Tie-in works done in very compressed schedule with spec

preparation, material take-off, MR floating, TBE, PO

placement done in a very short span of time.

Title: Wasit Co-generation & Steam generation Project

Owner: Saudi Arabian Oil Company - Saudi ARAMCO

Licensor: Axens, IFP Group Technologies.

Highlights: Deputed to Seoul (South Korea) at the Samsung Headquarters

as a materials engineering specialist for a span of 3

months (Nov'11-Jan'12).

Prepared the piping specifications for this project and

carried out all other piping materials related work.

Carried out the technical bid evaluation of all the piping

bulk items.

Resolution of technical issues with the client (ARAMCO)

and with the respective vendors.

Title: LOBS HPCL, Mumbai - Detail Engineering

Owner: Hindustan Petroleum Corporation Ltd (HPCL), Mumbai.

Project details Capacity of 200,000 MTPA. Facilities - Raffinate

Hydrotreating Unit, Mobil Selective Dewaxing Unit,

Hydrofinishing Unit

Highlights: Worked as the Piping Materials Engineering Specialist for

this project. Proficiently handled all the work pertaining

to piping materials.

Deftly handled a team of 3 members for carrying out the

piping materials job for this project, while taking the

full responsibility of materials section.

The PMS had 62 pipe classes with high pressure piping of

2500# & 1500# and materials like CS, SS (304, 316,

321,347H), Duplex SS, AS (P11, P22).

Carried out extensive calculations for bolt tensioning &

torque wrenching, with exhaustive meetings with tensioning

vendors to select the bolt tensioning equipments.

For the first time introduced compact steam trapping

assembly to replace the conventional steam trap with

associated valve arrangements. It reduced cost, time &

site construction work. I was solely responsible for

finalizing its details with vendors.

Title: Reactor & Regenerator (R-R) section of INDMAX FCC Unit,

Paradip Refinery- Detail Engineering & Proposal

Engineering

Owner: Indian Oil Corporation Limited (IOCL)

PMC / MPMC: Toyo Engineering Corporation, Japan / Foster Wheeler

Project details: Paradip Refinery has a capacity of 15,000,000 MMTPA. FCC

(Fluidized Catalytic Cracker) Reactor Regenerator Project

for converting heavy distillate and residue into LPG/light

distillate. It is the largest FCC unit in terms of

capacity and complexity among the PSU refineries in India.

Licensor: CB&I Lummus Technology

Highlights: Worked as the Materials engineer in the detailed

engineering and proposal stages of the project.

Prepared PMS which included critical lines with refractory

lining, high temperature fluid services (788 deg. C) and

very large pipe sizes of the order of 158''.

Carried out all the other design activities as listed out

in the above project.

Also worked in the proposal bidding stage of the project &

contributed in securing the detailed engineering design of

this project.
