M.Tech Project
Title : Reliability Analysis of Bridge Pier against Scour in Cohesive
Sediment.
Project Description :
Generally all analytical, semi-empirical or empirical equations for bridge
pier scour mostly developed so far are only for noncohesive sediment. There
is relatively little literature available for scour around bridge pier in cohesive
sediment. The aim of this study was to carry out the reliability analysis of
bridge pier against scour in cohesive bed. Recently developed deterministic
scour prediction model by Oh et. al. (2009) and an object oriented
constrained optimization using efficient spread sheet algorithm for FORM
has been used for the reliability analysis. To achieve a desired safety level in
the design of pier foundation, reliability based safety factor is proposed. The
influence of uncertainties, probability distribution of basic input parameters
on failure probability and reliability index has been studied in detail. An
attempt was also made to study the influence of correlation among input
parameters on reliability index and failure probability of the bridge pier. A
sensitivity analysis was also carried out to assess the relative contribution of
the individual basic parameters on reliability.
