I worked within a team of 25 other therapists from many different countries with a

range of cultural differences. Within this role I showed consistent enthusiasm,

I fulfilled the general duties and responsibilities of a therapist from being on time

and prompt for each appointment also supporting the needs of the spa and the

I work within a diverse, multi-cultural training centre, as a course tutor

teaching Beauty Therapy to level 3 students on apprenticeships and a fast

track course. This is a new course to In House Training as they have

never delivered the level 3 course. My role is to produce a scheme of

work and lesson plans embedding functional skills, equality and diversity

and safeguarding as well as resources to suit the units to be delivered.

Regular tutorial sessions are necessary to keep up to date with the

students and ensure they are working on target. Lessons I deliver are

both, theory and practical covering all level 3 units. I have language

barriers with some learners as English is not their first language; this

requires excellent communication skills, patience and creative ways of

teaching so that all learners gain equal knowledge and experience.

I work at Kirklees College as a Beauty Therapy Lecturer, teaching level 1 2

and 3 age 16+. This job role includes providing lesson plans and schemes

of work to deliver lessons in line with the current curriculum, embedding

functional skills, equality and diversity and safeguarding. Theory and

practical lessons are to be taught for treatments alongside assessing

students in practical and theory assessments. Ensuring students are able

to set up a professional area to meet high standards, use correct

communication skills to complete a full consultation with the client and

understand contra-indications, how to deal with them and other available

treatments to offer and follow treatment routines, techniques and methods

correctly to ensure no injury to the client. As part of the training we

development by keeping up to date with new products, equipment and

My main responsibilities as a manager were very important in daily

operations. My role was to ensure all aspects of the salon ran effectively,

ensuring customers were tended to, relaxed, satisfied, correct consultation

was being carried out and the business was running on a profit. I was

expected to use creative techniques to boost both the profit and clientele

of the salon.

As well as maintaining the role of manager, I was also a therapist within

the business, this meant I was expected to communicate effectively with

clients, carry out a full consultation taking into account any illnesses,

diseases or disorders and link this to the clients’ needs in relation to retail

and carry out treatments on clients to the highest standard possible. Along

with providing clients with treatments I also had to retail products to suit

each client and their needs. Other duties included making appointments,

and maintaining cleanliness, health, safety and hygiene of the salon and

handling cash. Other skills gained while working at cloud 9, include, good

communication skills, team work and improved confidence.

I have just recently finished a 9 month contract working on board a Disney

cruise line providing excellent services to a high end clientele. Previous to

this I worked in North Carolina as a camp councillor progressing to co-

leadership director in 3 weeks, directing teens to lead and guide young girl

scouts.

Alongside teaching and training at university, I was an events manager for

a snow sports team which improved my leadership and team management

skills along with promotional skills.
