as one of 2,000 candidates from a nationwide pool of 18,000 applicants. Candidates were awarded a

scholarship to complete a master’s degree program in education in the evenings and summers, while

teaching full-time. Acceptance into the program mandated a two-year appointment to teach in a New

York City public school, in an area of low socio-economic status. The program specifically recruits

successful professionals from other fields to enter academia. Upon completion of the program I was

asked to continue my appointment at PS 335, and encouraged to consider post-graduate studies for future

leadership positions with the New York City school system.
