Work Experience
Dick's Sporting Goods, Coraopolis, PA
Senior CRM Insight Analyst Jan 2012 - Present
. Use statistical analysis and data mining techniques to understand and
detect trends in customer behavior to create insightful
recommendations to improve marketing initiatives.
. Used methods of generalized linear models and regularization
techniques to predict response propensities for direct mail
campaigns. This beat traditional methods key performance
indicators.
. Created programs in and outside of SAS for analysis not available in
SAS deployment in use at Dick's Sporting goods. Programs were
designed to work, and made as efficient as possible.
. SAS: Supervised binning algorithm based on Minimum Description
Length Principle, AdaBoost with decision stumps as weak learners,
Elastic Net Logistic Regression for help in feature selection and
modeling (based on R package), low rank matrix factorization of
large, sparse data sets with practical use in segmentation,
clustering and recommendations.
. Python: The following were created to handle wide, sparse, data
sets (5000 or more variables) that had to process on my desktop.
Algorithms include: kNN, Na ve Bayes Classifier, and Logistic
regression with L2 regularization.
. Prepare SQL for complicated query requests and reports. Queries range
from basic to fairly complicated - using temp tables, nested queries,
joins and partial joins as well as analytic functions to keep data
processing on workstation to a minimum.
. Gather and manipulate data via large customer transaction database to
create complete views of the customers.
. Serve as a team resource for data and analysis needs
. Create ad-hoc analyses / reports to address executives request, direct
mail strategies, and other questions as needed.
. Accomplishments include championing predictive models for direct mail
campaigns. Identification of current customer who are casual or
competitive runners. Introduction of customer replenishment models
based on transaction data and demographic information provided by 3rd
party data vendors.
University of Kansas, Lawrence KS
Graduate Teaching Assistant / Mathematics Instructor Aug 2009- Dec 2011
. Taught undergraduate courses in mathematics including Precalculus,
Calculus I for Engineers, Business Calculus I, Business Calculus II,
and Excursions in Mathematics.
. Nominated for Florence Black Award for Excellence in Teaching, Spring
2011.
. Received superb student evaluations on a regular basis.
General Electric (GE Money), Shawnee - Mission, KS
Forecasting Analyst Sept 2006 - Aug 2009
. Responsible for developing and delivering accurate forecasts for
contact center key performance metrics for all short, intermediate,
and long term planning strategies. Primary methodologies: ARIMA,
Vector Auto-regression and GARCH - balanced statistical forecast with
business expectations.
. Statistical forecasting required periodic recalibration -
identifying changes in trend and / or seasonal impact.
. Incorporated testing for optimal data transformation into forecasting
process to stabilize the variance and reduce skew of data
. Developed recursive testing procedure in SAS to identify parameter
inconsistency and break points in time series data.
. Maintained weekly forecast reporting across all clients this involved
maintaining SAS code which ran on a server and generated excel files
which were feed into master reporting excel files.
. Lead migration of forecasting processes from SAS workstations to SAS
Server.
. Lead the migration to SAS Server, wrote Windows scripts to automate
the run, notify manaer and myself of run completion (or error) via
email.
Service Management Group, Kansas City, MO
Research Analyst Oct 2004 - Sept 2006
. Provided expertise and support to project teams and senior management
on statistical and methodological issues related to satisfaction and
loyalty measurement. Typical analysis involved use of factor analysis
and regression techniques on survey data. Primary goal was to provide
client with an understanding of the key drivers for Overall
Satisfaction. Additional analysis around the Loyalty Profit Chain -
how Overall Satisfaction and Loyalty link to profitability. This
analysis was presented as Univariate regression.
. Prepared data in SPSS for analysis (data cleaning, recoding, assigning
variable labels and values, aggregation, restructuring)
. Conduct statistical analysis ranging from descriptive statistics to
principal components analysis and multinomial logistic regression.
. Interpreted and evaluated statistical output and generated
recommendations based on findings.
. Prepared results summaries and reports in Microsoft Excel and
PowerPoint.
. Presented findings to project teams and clients.
. Develop new analysis deliverables including CHAID analysis to segment
employees based on satisfaction survey as well as text mining to
correlate customer satisfaction to customer comments.
Technical Skills
. Statistical analysis and inference, predictive modeling, data mining.
. SAS Tools: BASE, STAT, ETS, SQL, MACROS, IML, Enterprise Guide, IML
Studio. Network Visualization Studio.
. Languages: SAS, IMLPlus, SQL, PL/SQL, NZSQL, Python, R
. Interests: Java, Octave, Matlab, Machine Learning and Statistical
Learning, MapReduce
