. Use statistical analysis and data mining techniques to understand and

detect trends in customer behavior to create insightful

recommendations to improve marketing initiatives.

. Used methods of generalized linear models and regularization

techniques to predict response propensities for direct mail

campaigns. This beat traditional methods key performance

. Created programs in and outside of SAS for analysis not available in

SAS deployment in use at Dick's Sporting goods. Programs were

designed to work, and made as efficient as possible.

. SAS: Supervised binning algorithm based on Minimum Description

Length Principle, AdaBoost with decision stumps as weak learners,

Elastic Net Logistic Regression for help in feature selection and

modeling (based on R package), low rank matrix factorization of

large, sparse data sets with practical use in segmentation,

clustering and recommendations.

. Python: The following were created to handle wide, sparse, data

sets (5000 or more variables) that had to process on my desktop.

Algorithms include: kNN, Na ve Bayes Classifier, and Logistic

regression with L2 regularization.

. Prepare SQL for complicated query requests and reports. Queries range

from basic to fairly complicated - using temp tables, nested queries,

joins and partial joins as well as analytic functions to keep data

processing on workstation to a minimum.

. Gather and manipulate data via large customer transaction database to

create complete views of the customers.

. Serve as a team resource for data and analysis needs

. Create ad-hoc analyses / reports to address executives request, direct

mail strategies, and other questions as needed.

. Accomplishments include championing predictive models for direct mail

campaigns. Identification of current customer who are casual or
