Researcher, Intelligent Measurements and Evaluation Laboratory, SIUC Jan
2013 – May 2014
• Conducted Ultrasonic Testing (UT) and Infrared Thermography (IRT) of composites and
metals.
• Explored techniques of Automated Defect Recognition (ADR) for composites.
• Performed 2D modelling and assemblies for various projects using Creo Parametric 2.0.
• Coordinated with the team to come up with new ideas, solutions to problems, and proposals
for projects.
Thesis: Automated Ultrasonic Signal Classification of CFRP Laminates May 2014
• Used Artificial Neural Networks, specifically, Hopfield network to classify different defects types in
Carbon-Fiber-Reinforced Plastic (CFRP) panels.
• Developed a methodology to extract feature vectors from the A-scan signals, which contained
information for different defects.
• The results of this methodology were validated with the results of conventional feature extraction
techniques; Fast Fourier Transform (FFT) and Discrete Wavelet Transform (DWT).
• The pre-processing, signal analysis, and signal classification was achieved by developing a
MATLAB code.
Teaching Assistant, Mechanical Engineering and Energy Processes, SIUC Jan 2012 –
Dec 2013
• Conducted Thermal Measurements lab and Control Systems Theory lab for a group of 15-20
students.
• Assisted the students in conducting various lab experiments and recording data using data
acquisition systems.
• Assisted the professor in grading of the coursework, and maintaining student records.
