Senior Lead Unix Systems Administrator

UNIX Administration with Trusted Extensions (TX) on Solaris 10 with ZFS file systems and zones for a cross-domain solution for DOD. Maintain the operations and maintenance for the systems by patching and hardening of the OS, upgrading applications to include Oracle App Suites, databases and operating systems. Create bash and sql scripts to automate daily checks and tasks.

Provide virtualization and administration for the devops group by building automation tools for applications to support development and testing, scaling and monitoring of web performance to enhance stability, availability and reliability. Learning and developing skills with Ruby, Python, Chef, Puppet and other new technologies.

Maintain enterprise backups of audit-slurps, database backups, logfiles and home directories utilizing Netbackup 6 on a L700 tape robot from the cross-domain environment. Monitor grid, database and os systems with Oracle Enterprise Monitor. Verify that all oem, oam and oid agents are healthy. Run queries with Oracle BI to create reports as requested. Prune all alert and trace / alert log files as well as message and applications logs. Archive application logs and event logs for information assurance. Monitor and update weekly Uvscans for the solaris operating systems.

Troubleshoot all anomalies and provide mitigation and / or modifications to hardware, software and networks. Maintain and upgrade when required all Big IP F5's. Create documentation, processes, configuration management back-out plans, disaster recovery

Aerospace Corp/Techlink, Chantilly, VA: (July 2010 – Jan 2011)

Senior Administrator

Built from the ground up a 25 rack data center for SCI, Secret and Unclassified computing, to include the security, KG’s, network, firewall, server, monitoring and virtual environments. Created DAR’s (design analysis reviews) to justify the equipment, ordered, received, installed and configured the systems all the while maintaining configuration of software and hardware. Obtained visio templates for the racks, both front and back, to create site interconnect diagrams and support CM.

Authored all the documentation, procedures and disaster recovery required to operate the site. Setup and maintained the backup systems and managed the personnel for site maintenance contracts. Worked with security to obtain SCIF certification and demonstrate validation and verification for customer buy-off.

Perform Solaris system administration for several program areas to include OS upgrades, jumpstart, package and patch management for servers and workstations. Support the linux/SGI cluster nodes as needed and monitored systems with Ganglia. Recommended, installed and configured big brother to provide advanced warning and systems monitoring.

Developed scripts to automate administration. Authored many procedures and documented every aspect of the various program environments. Suggested improvements to the specialized environments and standardization of daily operating processes.

BAE Systems, San Diego, CA: (March 2010 – May 2010)

Senior Lead UNIX Systems Administrator

Managed Red Hat Release 4 and 5 servers and clients with Xen and VM images on Dell Blades for both unclassified and classified systems. Created kick start servers and migrated Xen images over to VM. Applied Security patches per RPM's and demonstrated the virtues of virtualization to both Windows and UNIX desktop personnel.

Setup and maintained Security Hardening, Auditing and Virus Scan for all UNIX systems with McaFee Command Line applications. Provided the Architecture, implementation, scripting and documentation for both unclassified and classified systems. Reported to Program and DOD security with cases and issues presented by the respective organizations.

Maintained all Netbackup 6.0 and Networker 7.4 backup systems to include maintenance of robots in both classified and unclassified systems. Recommended Fiber Channel drives to replace scsi systems with giga bit interfaces on a separate network to relieve the load on the user networks. Recommended disk to disk to tape backups.

McCallie / SAIC, San Diego, CA: (Oct 2009 – March 2010)

Senior Unix Administrator / Oracle DBA

Completed server transition from v880 to T5220 servers with attached NAS. Moved all home directories to the new NAS and decommissioned the older V880's. Installed Red Hat virtualization to demonstrate the capability.

Upgraded Networker 7.2 to 7.4 and then to 7.5 to support backups. Wrote design analysis reviews to upgrade the architecture, achieved customer approval and implemented the new solutions for backups. Ordered essential hardware and created new storage nodes with no loss of indexes and related volumes databases.

Performed UNIX Administration on SUN, AIX and Linux Clusters providing engineering support for applications that reside on the files systems. Administration of Sun, AIX, and HP UNIX computer systems to include hardware configuration, software installation, reconfiguration of the kernel, networking, backup/restore, establishing user ids, password resets and keep all running in a satisfactory manner. Familiarity with Web Focus.

Created, Loaded and configured databases on servers just after OS installation with the following versions of Oracle: 7, 8i and 9i. Using IBM-AIX and HP-UX Logical Volume Managers contained in SMIT and SAM respectively, created logical volumes and journal file systems on disk arrays for database tablespace manipulation.
