Operational Psychology Coordinator and Project Coordinator, Wyle Science, Technology and Engineering @ NASA-JSC, Houston, TX 2000-to-Present

• Previously, section Team Lead, for the Operational Psychology Section of the Behavioral Health and Performance Group, leading a team of 7 people who provide psychological support to Space Station (ISS) astronauts and their families. Prepared and implemented in-flight resources for ISS astronauts and their families to ensure crew and family well-being and morale during long duration separation missions. In doing so, defined and shaped the current Operational Psychology support program at NASA as it is implemented today.

• Effectively coordinate weekly communication for the ISS crew members with their families on the ground via private family video conference which is a NASA Medical Requirement.

• Often successfully completing challenging remote video conferences from Mission Control to ISS requiring technological and logistical savvy coordination due to the nature and location of the end recipients. One example of such connections was from Mission Control, to ISS, to a Navy ceremony aboard a deployed ship requiring several signal connections via land and satellite, to include Navy families located in the U.S., sailors aboard the ship, and the Space Station astronauts.

• Prepare and deliver Crew Care Packages to astronauts on the ISS from their families. These packages contain personal items for psychological support and are delivered on the U.S. Shuttle (previously), and the Russian, Japanese, and European re-supply vehicles, as well as the Commercial Spaceflight vehicles.

• Unique communications for ISS crew members with celebrities, sports figures, authors, and other persons of interest are coordinated for the purpose of boosting morale in an isolated/unchanging environment.

• Prepare and provide training to astronauts and their families regarding the type of support services available during pre-flight, in-flight, and post-flight phases of long duration missions to mitigate the potential negative psychological effects of long duration separation.

• Implement various administrative improvements such as tracking tools, developing/maintaining various schedules and metrics, arrange meetings of internal and external subject matter experts, literature searches, and maintaining records and ISS Program and other government requirements documents.

• Set-up an arrangement of professional displays for booths used to promote the NASA behavioral health activities associated with the Space Medicine program.

• In July 2010, transitioned to a part-time position where work was conducted across all elements of the Behavioral Health and Performance Group in Operational Psychology (mission support), Behavioral Health Research (plans for Mars Missions), and Flight Analogues Project (Human Test Subject studies). In 2012, returned full-time to the Operational Psychology tasks.

• Duties included test administration of psychological screening exams to candidates for the NASA bed rest studies conducted at UTMB-Galveston, and administering informed consent.

• Heavily involved in the planning and execution of the Behavioral Health and Performance activities related to the 2012-2013 Astronaut Selection cycle on a full-time basis.

• I maintain all ISO documents including Work Instructions, Forms, and Master Lists of Forms and Work Instruction for the entire Behavioral Health and Performance Group.

Industrial Hygiene Technician, Kelsey-Seybold @ NASA-JSC, Houston, TX 1998-to-2000

• Accomplished Ergonomic evaluations of individual and group workstations, including computer and laboratory workstations. Ensured proper ergonomic practices and assisted when necessary to obtain new chairs or other workstation accessories to eliminate pain/discomfort experienced by JSC employees.

• Administered the Respiratory Protection Program for all civil service and contractor employees, assuring the appropriate medical surveillance/physical exams prior to employee admittance to the program.

• Conducted training and fit-testing in accordance with OSHA standards. I conducted respirator training and fit-testing in accordance with OSHA standards.

• Prepared training materials and assisted with training classes for various Safety related courses required for employees including Ergonomics, Bloodborne Pathogens, and Respiratory Protection.

• Other duties included assisting the Industrial Hygienists with the ventilation surveys and monitoring of ventilation hoods used in lab environments at JSC to reduce chemical inhalation hazards.

• Maintained JSC Risk Assessment Codes (RAC) database.

Laboratory Field Director, Mid-South Analytical Labs, Shreveport, LA 1996-to-1998

• Directed all environmental sampling events for a tri-state (LA, AR, TX) laboratory with annual sales in excess of $2.8 million for >500 clients and 56,000 samples per year.

• Responsible for planning sample collection schedule and routes of field technicians, sample integrity of all incoming samples including recording pertinent data, documentation using chain-of-custody, assignment of unique sample tracking numbers, generating paperwork for chemists, detailing required analysis, and data entry of all lab results.

• Managed shipping and receiving activities for all incoming samples for analysis and outgoing sample containers for collection.

• Created weekly, monthly, and annual spreadsheets for each client and entered data as new analyses were performed. Maintaining client files and posting updates to State and Federal permits to ensure each client maintained regulatory limits, was of utmost importance.

• Maintained and ordered chemicals, equipment and supplies, totaling approximately $275,000 per year by completing requisitions, purchase orders, and research of suitable supply companies based on product quality and cost comparison.

Hazardous Waste Coordinator, CSI Environmental Inc. @ Red River Army Depot, New Boston, TX Mar 1995-Oct 1995

• As a contractor for the U.S. Army, the transportation, analysis, and disposal of hazardous waste were primary responsibilities. This included tracking all hazardous waste disposal activities from the Red River Army Depot in New Boston, Texas.

• Analyzed the constituents of each waste generated to ensure proper analytical methods were utilized in the analysis, assignment of proper disposal codes for each of these wastes, and coordinated with various transporters and disposal facilities for the shipment of these wastes to approved disposal sites.

• Responsible for ensuring analytical methods met the requirements of the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) Resource Conservation and Recovery Act (RCRA) as found in the 40 series of the U.S. Code of Federal Regulations and completed all Department of Transportation (DOT) manifests for shipment. Additionally, reviewed other EPA and U.S. Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) standards, to ensure these requirements were also satisfied. Also, located transporters, scheduled

shipment dates and routes, and reviewed applicable shipping paperwork to ensure DOT, EPA, and OSHA requirements for transportation of the hazardous materials were met.

Industrial Hygiene Technician, U.S. Air Force (Active), Brooks AFB, San Antonio, TX 1989-to-1993

• Conducted industrial hygiene surveys of workplaces to identify, assess, and control worker exposures to radiation, noise, chemicals, asbestos, and other environmental agents and hazards.

• Implemented the Base drinking water monitoring program, including collecting samples, ensuring EPA requirements were met, and providing notification to State and Base organizations to resolve system deficiencies.

• Managed the Base radiation safety monitoring program by performing radiation surveys of various emitters and ensuring proper medical monitoring and training of affected workers including pregnancy profile entry for females in the radiation protection program.

• Established, managed, and maintained the Base respiratory protection program, for which the Air Force Achievement Medal was received.
