I assisted the director in planning and implementing new policies. As a case manager for

Telemetry unit was very involved with the cardiologists and Tela-health program of VNAHV to

prevent re-admission of CHF and COPD cases. I was commended for the good work in the news

letter by several patients. Case manager took the charge of the interdisciplinary rounds. I

participated in the weekly LOS meetings with case management director, chief hospitalist, CFO

a job closer to home.

Case manager

I was promoted as a case manager because I was assertive enough to talk to patient and

physicians about the level of care and LOS. The hospital was bleeding financially and they

trained qualified nurses to be the “knight” of the facility. The main responsibilityy of this job

was to review chart / medical records provide clinical information to payers, ensure quality of

patient care, and oversee proactive discharge plans. Retro reviews and patient advocacy is also

important part of the job.

I received one week training on Interqual criteria to determine the correct level of care. I

was trained to issue HINN, ABN and ALC notices. Case managers constantly educated

physicians the level of care. I was commended repeatedly for “Highest productivity” in review

counts by the director. Received training in PRI and screen and got certified. I assisted and

guided 2 social workers who were assigned with me for discharge planning. I played the role of

team leader for the daily interdisciplinary rounds. I participated in the weekly LOS meetings

with medical director, case management director, and CFO. I left this job after a family issue and

needed to be closer to home.

1998- 2008

Registered nurse

Charge nurse. As a charge nurse I made sure the unit is running smoothly. Daily

assignment and recruiting staff for the next shift is done by the charge nurse. As a schedule

moderator I made sure the schedule is appropriate for each shift with number of staff and skill

set. As a management student my manager included me in hiring process such as interviews. I

assisted manager in annual reviews. As a nurse I did admission, discharge and ongoing

assessment of high risk and low risk neonates. I provided nursing care to infants as low as

23weeks gestational age. Care of ventilators, IV care medications gavage feeding as well as

resuscitation. Ongoing educate and support to the parents and care givers was important part of

the job. I did preceptor ship for many new nurses and was a member of palliative care

committee.

I started as a permit nurse (RNP) and got licensed in the same year as RN. The main

responsibilities included providing care of low -risk and high risk neonates. Health education and

support to parents and care givers.

I was commissioned as Lieutenant Rank and served as charge nurse in a military hospital.

As a charge nurse I made sure the delivery of care for the military personals and their families.

Charge nurse made the assignment and made sure the care is rented appropriately. Other

responsibilities included ordering supplies and rounding with physicians and supervisors. I was

awarded as the “best pediatric nurse “in 1985. In my military service period I served 2acute care

facilities and one long term care facility in India.
