. "IMPLEMENTATION OF RS 485 PROTOCOL ON FPGA" PG Diploma project
submitted in NIELIT Calicut
Abstract: The RS-485 serial protocol is serial communication protocol
which specifies bi-directional and half-duplex data transmission up to
N nodes. A serial communications interface (SCI) is a device that
enables the serial (one bit at a time) exchange of data between a
microprocessor and peripherals. In this respect, it is similar to a
serial peripheral interface (SPI). But in addition, the SCI enables
serial communications with another microprocessor or with an external
network. This paper deals with design of serial communication
interface IP core in RS485 communication protocol which is modeled
using Verilog HDL and is simulated in ModelSim . The design has been
synthesized using Altera Quartus and emulated using Altera Cyclone .
. "PORTABLE OZONE GENERATOR" final year project submitted in Diploma
Abstract: Ozone generator presented here has a capacity of producing
10 mg/minute of ozone combined with atmospheric air. The discharge
tube is supplied O2 from an O2 pump and in built in to the unit. The
unit produces ozonised air, so the exit tube can be let into water
containers with water up to a level of 10-15 cm .This unit is light in
weight and contains a micrometre showing the ozone concentration .it
employs a high voltage of over 5kV, so that this voltage causes lethal
shock .Thus a high frequency should be employed along with this high
voltage.
Here a high frequency of 15kHz to 20kHz is generated which would
not cause a lethal shock,as shock voltages are not dangerous at these
high frequencies, ozone generated is more efficient and silent in its
discharge. Apart from its usage as water disinfection or air
purification, it can also be used for mosquito repulsion, bleaching,
pollutant treatment, mouth washing, vegetable cleaning, and skin wound
heating.
. "ULTRASONIC RANGE FINDER" presented in 3rd student contest held at
AMRITA
UNIVERSITY
Abstract: This project consists of a handheld range finding device
using ultrasonic transducer and a PIC microcontroller. A two-line LCD
display is used to display the measurements. There is a
40kHztransmitter and receiver. The 40 kHz-transmission signal is
generated via a square wave outputted from the PIC. The PIC is then
used to calculate the time of flight (TOF) for the sound wave that is
bounced off of distant objects. The return signal is amplified using
two op amp amplifiers.
There are three potentiometers that need to be calibrated for
correct operation. One controls the contrast of the LCD display.
Another controls the amplification of the third stage of the amplifier
system. The third controls the voltage offset that connects to the
base of a NPN switching transistor. The measurement range of the
device is one to ten feet. Further distances can be measured, but due
to circuit noise erroneous measurements can be obtained for longer
distances. The absolute maximum range that can be measured is about
twenty feet.
. "QUADROTOR HELICOPTER SURVEILANCE" final year project in engineering
Abstract: The initial motivation of this project is to create a flyer for
surveillance purposes. The helicopter makes many possible things that could
not be achieved by a land robot. This flight mode requires additional
subsystems such as ultrasonic proximity sensors, so that the robot can
detect and avoid obstacles and a digital compass, so that its direction can
be ascertained and corrected. All of these sensors send a lot of data to
the microcontroller unit, the brain of the aero watcher (quad-rotor), which
must process the information according to its algorithms and prompt the
appropriate subsystems to action. A complex task is assigned to the
microcontroller unit which has to maintain level flight by varying the
speed of individual motors based upon the calculation of data received from
the quad control unit. The frame must be designed strong and should be
rigid enough to support all the other systems, yet light enough so as to
prolong flight duration to acceptable levels. The aero watcher was
ultimately chosen based upon the realization of feasibility and its
possible future applications.
