MECHANICAL ENGINEER HAS DESIGN EXPERTISE
A senior mechanical engineer with expertise and patents for creating
optimal solutions for products, processes, and systems. Experienced in
multi-discipline interactions and team leadership roles. Project
contributions range from developing concepts to improving mature products.
Always interested and eager to contribute knowledge and experience to
create and optimize systems. Attention to details results in designs that
operate with minimal variation.
PROFESSIONAL EXPERIENCE
2012 - 2013 FLOW INTERNATIONAL INC., Jeffersonville, Indiana
Senior Mechanical Engineer, Advanced Systems
Project senior engineer assigned to design multiple-axis, gantry style
waterjet cutting systems.
Product development team member to design waterjet machines to meet
customer specifications. Softwares learned and used were Pro/Engineer CAD,
Dassault Systemes Enovia PLM, and Microsoft Dynamics AX ERP.
Contributed printing press installation knowledge to resolve gantry
movement on site.
Member of workgroup to evaluate and revise standards to maintain ISO
certification. Submitted process documentation recommendations to align to
new organization structure.
Initiated dialogue with corporate headquarters personnel for optimizing PLM
resource structure.
2006 - 2012 EASTMAN KODAK COMPANY, Kettering, Ohio
Senior Engineer, Systems Research & Development
Hired as the web handling subject matter expert for a new product line of
commercial inkjet printing systems.
Taught the design of web printing systems to a design team located in
Germany. Topics included web path behaviors, alignment, balancing, and
vibration criteria. Engineering prototype transports were fabricated and
shipped to the US for evaluation and optimization. The result is the
Prosper? continuous inkjet commercial printing system. This product aided
Kodak to exit bankruptcy in 2013.
Designed, performed, and evaluated performance of the engineering prototype
transport. Subsequently designed and implemented web handling performance
improvements. Designed simpler web path with less drives to reduce cost.
Improved nip stations to not require setups or alignments. Used SolidWorks
CAD.
Generated calculations and technical criteria to support formulation of
product requirements, and oversaw inclusion of these into the downstream
generation designs.
Proposed concepts and provided technical guidance to project management for
advancing and refining system architecture and configurations. Contributed
modular design methodology to enable configuration modifications with least
cost impact.
Initiated effort with Corporate Engineering to identify the causes and
resolution of image mis-registrations, resulting in innovative and unique
web handling solutions. Submitted patent disclosures for unique web
handling solutions.
Led project with Corporate Engineering resources to construct a closed loop
web test stand to validate image quality of prints using spectrophotometry.
Led start-up and initial qualification testing phases. Following
qualification, created the operating instructions.
Conducted audit and analysis of off-site location for installation of
company's first wide web transport. Determined utilities required,
consumable(s) movements to/from transport, and floor space required. Worked
with machine fabricator to confirm anchoring and installation of web
transport.
PROFESSIONAL EXPERIENCE continued
1997 - 2006 GOSS INTERNATIONAL AMERICAS, Durham, New Hampshire
Lead Order Engineer (2000 - 2006)
Project design team leader for modification of configurations to meet
customer specifications for web offset printing press systems.
Led team for design of printing press system configuration modifications
and associated auxiliary machinery into European customer sites.
Calculated electrical, pneumatic, and fluid loads for pump, blower, chill
water, and dust collection systems.
Generated piping schematics, web path diagrams, foundation loads, and web
imposition spreadsheets.
Identified project tasks and resource responsibilities, priorities, and
schedules for order execution. Constructed a spreadsheet used by project
management to track and evaluate order execution progress.
Released technical data packages using Unigraphics CAD and SAP ERP
softwares.
Developed and implemented designs, materials, and process standards for
U.S. and E.U. colleagues.
Senior Project Engineer, Mechanical (1997 - 2000)
Project lead engineer for the design of a webup system and web handling
components in a newspaper printing press system.
Designed prototype system on Unigraphics CAD. Specified motors and presence
sensors, and designed drivers, path diverters and support structures.
Developed system controls logic for each affected equipment from reel stand
to former board for each web path.
Designed, and constructed an engineering breadboard to prove concepts and
implement modifications.
Formed strategic team of US and European colleagues assigned to equipment
designs.
Designed idler roller to meet minimal deflection and inertia goals. Created
a simple and unique method of assembly. Coordinated with off-site
colleagues and vendors to develop processes for turning thin wall seamless
tubing.
Team member to source, qualify, and implement company's first 3D Systems
stereo lithography machine.
ADDITIONAL EXPERIENCE
Mechanical Engineering Group Leader of five engineers, two designers, and
four technicians for design and fabrication of proprietary machinery for
stamping, forming, and product assembly.
Product Team Leader of eight-member, multidisciplinary, new product
development team.
Senior Mechanical Engineer responsible for automated production machines.
Increasingly responsible positions as a United States Federal career
employee:
=> responsible for the overhaul of propulsion plant systems on
nuclear submarines for the U.S. NAVY - NAVSEA
=> designing improved artillery recoil mechanisms for the U.S.
ARMY - DARCOM
