Administrative Laboratory Director / Department Administrator serves a multi-functional role across the

Institution. Roles included Clinical Biochemistry, 27 Family Health Center (FHC) labs and targeted integration

for the 8 regional community hospital laboratories. It touches all aspects of patient care: from outpatient

phlebotomy to the fully functional rapid response labs in our freestanding emergency departments to the routine

and esoteric testing performed in our main campus labs. In all of these settings, the patient experience is first and

foremost in our Institute’s mind by providing quality test results at a minimal cost while treating the patient with

the respect and dignity that they deserve. In addition to the focus on patient experience, the role of the

administrator requires many necessary aspects of the organization: from budgeting for sections within the

Department that total over $150 million in gross revenue and over $13 million in operating expenses (2013

calendar year) to FTE management of over 180 FTEs to contract renegotiations with vendors to drive down cost

to the Institution. In addition, maintaining compliance and CAP accreditation is required at each non-waived lab

located in the FHCs and on main campus. The role also acts as an active member to the Cleveland Clinic

Reference Lab by implementation of IOPs, communication of changes to clients and creating a structure to ensure

smooth transition of client conversion. Lastly, this position serves a leadership role as the administrative chair for

the Chemistry Integration team and Enterprise Flexible Staffing to help standardize various aspects of the

performing labs throughout the FHCs and the regional community hospitals, such as standardization of

equipment, consolidation of the test menu and standardization of reference ranges.

• Manages and administrates all aspects of Department operations.

• Assumes responsibility for the department's fiscal planning, budgeting, and related financial activities.

• Develops strategic business, market and operation plans for main campus, FHC and CCHS laboratories

• Promotes active and harmonious partnership and liaises between the professional/medical staff and the

administrative/technical staff.

• Performs systems analysis to create new systems and operating procedures or revises established systems

to achieve maximum efficiency of the department processes.

• Acts as liaison/consultant with the department, division/institute, other Foundation departments, and

outside institutions.

• Organizes and manages the development of plans related to the expansion, relocation, and remodeling of
