United States Army Healthcare Specialist and Combat Medic

. While serving I had the opportunity to lead troops during Physical
Training and have had experience working in the troop medical center in a
clinical setting and in the trauma/evacuation setting in the field on a
daily basis as an active duty soldier.
. I was responsible for opening, stocking, and admittance/disposition of
soldiers at my battalion aid station in weekly shifts from 0500 to 0700
Monday through Friday's. Duties included sterilization of aidstation,
ordering and re-stocking medical supplies, taking vital signs using a
pulse oximeter, bp cuff, and performing visual acuity tests. I was also
allowed by my Physician's Assistant to prescribe and administer
medications for certain ailments such as anaphylaxis, hot weather
injuries such as dehydration, frost bite, and pain management.
. I served as a highly skilled and trained combat medic/healthcare
specialist for 3 years, 5 months, and 11 days. I was attatched to an
infantry platoon for a period of time that was intensively trained in
ground combat.
. I took part in annual 25-mile ruck marches with the 10th Mt. Division. I
provided medical coverage and support to the Light-fighter school, pre-
ranger school, and many live fire exercises. I also worked extensively
with the combat engineer sappers of 2nd brigade special troops battalion
and 2-14 golden dragons infantry battalion during my tour of duty.
. My job duties included maintaining a stock of medical supplies suchas
bandages, gauze, tourniquets, latexgloves, trauma shears, seat belt
cutter, and intubation devices such as the fast1, cricothyroidotomy kit,
nasopharangeal adjunct, oral adjunct, surgical lube, IV needles, lines,
and fluids. (Medications were checked weekly for experition date).
. It was my responsibility to know the medical history for each of my
platoon's men and specifically note allergies and those with prior heat
injuries or cold weather injuries. I was also utilized in record
organization and immunizations for the entire battalion.
. I am familiar with writing detailed and accurate SOAP notes.
. After being honorably discharged from the military, I maintain my
national registry of emergency technician's certification card.

relocated to another part of Michigan. In western Michigan I stayed
employed for a private contractor doing professional drywall installation
before finally deciding to join the military in early 2008.
