Professional Experience:
- Prepare for autopsies by obtaining patients' medical records. Performs, and describes, samples and reports
autopsies when required.
- Assist with or perform autopsies and surgical specimen examinations under pathologists' supervision.
- Describes measures and dictates gross findings on select specimen using appropriate terminology.
- - Dissect, examine, measure, weigh and photograph organs and specimens, collect tissue specimens for
chemical analysis and record findings.
- Selects and identifies tissue for microscopic examination.
- Performs gross dissection of surgical specimens and documents gross findings under the direction of
pathologists.
- Performs gross specimen photography, selects tissue for appropriate ancillary testing, and procures tissue for
research protocols.
- Train and supervise morgue attendants. Assists with training of residents, fellows, and students.
- Determine shift staffing requirements and develop work and vacation schedules for co-workers. Adjust line
items because of equipment breakdown, loss of staff or other unexpected events.
