Software Developer & Integrator I, April 2013-Present
In addition to being put in a greater leadership and mentor
role, this has also been a time where I've been trusted to
provide more oversight to our colleagues on the development
team, ensuring that they develop code that's acceptable for
maintenance and is within established and agreed-upon
guidelines. At this point I'm also seen as a go-to resource for
several of our Bank Data Warehouse applications.
Highlights
. Led an emergency rebuilding effort for one of our high-
priority systems that had fallen days behind. I had to
modify the way the system generated its sequence keys to
allow its subsystems to run in parallel instead of
sequentially. This allowed us to reduce the ETL process'
run time from 18 hours to 6 hours, which allowed us to
catch up the backlogged cycles much faster. This also made
point-forward support of the system much easier, and
greatly improved the availability of data for our business
customers.
. Acted as a lead ETL developer for migrating one of the
largest systems supported by the Bank R&A team, which
summarizes customer financials over all bank products on a
monthly basis, over from a DB2 platform to a Netezza
platform. I took the initiative to also have us rewrite the
ETL code, simplify it and improve its efficiency. Doing so
has allowed us to save several terabytes of storage by
removing redundant data that wasn't needed or used, as well
as improve the runtime by well over 24 hours per run.
. Received recognition from one of the product managers on
the business side for work that I did with our Quality
Score system, where I had to make several adjustments to
ETL to optimize data that was crucial to part of a CEO
metric, and was able to finish the rewrite and data reload
within about 2 weeks.
Software Developer & Integrator II, September 2011-April 2013
With this promotion, I was stepping more into the role of a
system expert, as well as getting more leadership opportunities
as I was becoming more comfortable and knowledgeable in my role.
Highlights:
. Received my first opportunity to be a lead ETL developer in
a development project. Our business customers wanted
additional fields added to our loans data, so we went
through the full SDLC process. We were able to deliver the
data that the business needed within the allotted time and
budget.
. Was given an initiative to modify some business logic for a
system that scores the amount of engagement a member has
with their checking account, called the Quality Score. The
data is then used as a CEO metric to evaluate company
performance. This was among our most complex code, and the
project allowed me to become its system expert.
Software Developer & Integrator III, June 2010-September 2011
This was my first full-time position out of college, also my
first experience with Business Intelligence and Data
Warehousing. I was assigned to work on the Reporting & Analytics
Support team, where we supported ETL applications that loaded
data specifically for the Bank (USAA Federal Savings Bank).
Highlights:
. I was a key resource in building and launching our team's
Bank Reporting & Analytics training plan, which gives a
comprehensive overview of exactly what our team does, what
systems we support and the tools/technologies we use. I had
to opportunity to present this training plan to management
throughout the Business Intelligence/Data Warehousing
organization, and it's continuing to be used to train new
team members to this day.
. Had my first recovery opportunity when we ran into a couple
of major data and code-related issues with one of our newer
applications, Advanced Loans System, which loads Consumer
and Home Equity Loan data to our Enterprise Data Warehouse
(EDW). It wound up being a month-long effort to identify
the root causes of the issues, fix the code, correct the
bad data and catch all of the backlogged data up to the
current day.
. Got my first training opportunity when I was assigned to be
a mentor to a summer intern. I gave him an overview of our
systems and got him involved in a couple of small projects
(the training plan I developed turned out to be very useful
for the intern).
January 2010 to May 2010 NSU Student Technology
Natchitoches, LA
Computer Lab Assistant
. Supervise different computer labs around campus
. Make sure the computers and other equipment in the labs is
working correctly
. Assist other students with computer-related questions or
problems
June 2009 to August 2009 Old South Trading Post
Natchez, MS
Webpage Intern
. Utilized Microsoft Expression Web, Adobe Photoshop and
Notepad (HTML)
. Designed and coded a new layout for their company website
. Cleaned up and simplified the HTML
. Created a Cascading Style Sheet for all web pages
. Put all of the store's inventory up on the website to be
purchased online
