RESEARCH EXPERIENCE

1. ACADEMIC

Ph.D candidate, advised by Prof. Ayusman Sen

The Pennsylvania State University (Penn-state), University Park, PA (2011-present)

Project #1: Colloidal Delivery Agents to Repair Damaged Human Tissues

• Developed a unique targeting technique for bone and teeth micro-cracks that enables damage detection

and repair, fully tested in biomimetic in-vitro environment; being followed up by in-vivo studies

• Designed biocompatible colloids and suspensions using FDA approved materials and methods to transport

bone morphogenetic proteins, growth factors and cell generating drugs to the crack site

Project #2: Crack Repair – Biomaterials to Polymers

• Conceptualized a polymer-crack repair system using emulsified colloidal repair agents

• Synthesized emulsions, pre-loaded with repair agents, and characterized them with analytical techniques

like SEM, Zeta potential, Raman spectroscopy and DLS

Project #3: Versatile Scavenging Colloidal Pump

• Intellectualized a chemically modified smart polymeric material that pumps colloidal systems while

exhibiting memory for pre-defined stimuli (ion or photo-triggered)

• Encoded smart polymeric material to selectively scavenge biological and inorganic colloidal species based

on charge

1

Project #4: Characterizing Protein/Enzyme Mobility using Micro-fluidics

• Utilizing contact photolithography, fabricated soft lithography based microfluidic devices aimed at

analyzing protein interactions with substrate and inhibitor

• Formulated micro-emulsions containing proteins, fluorescent labelling of proteins and enzymes and their

purification, diffusion studies in hydrogels

Project #5: Development of Switchable Colloidal Transport Systems

• Developed stimuli responsive, self-powered colloidal micro-pumps that contain multiple levels of

regulation over colloidal motion

• Engineered control into colloidal micro-fluidic pumps by fabricating a novel photo-triggered “on/off”

switch capable of generating nano-scale patterns and channel-less flows

2. INDUSTRIAL

Jubilant Life Sciences, Noida, India (2010 – 2011)

• Investigated Active Pharmaceutical Ingredient (API) of potential drug molecules and finished drug

Research associate, Analytical Department, Research and Formulation Division

products for their assays, performed stability studies, impurity separation and identification using

chromatographic techniques; Studied drug release profiles using dissolution tester

• Performed wet chemical analysis on formulations in accordance with market specific pharmacopeia
