Academic Project

Project Title: Air Purification System.

Team size: 4 Members Duration: 3 months.

Description: The prime objective of this project was to reduce the chemical air pollution that usually happens in a

small scale manufacturing firms.Indoor air quality continues to be one of the major problem faced by small scale

manufacturing firms, so we fabricated an AIR PURIFICATION SYSTEM using cost effective and easily available

materials like activated carbon and charcoal to treat and purify chemically polluted air.

In this project we made use of a solar panel, 12v dc brushless motor fans, leaded battery, dust filter, activated carbon

filter, charcoal filter and a metallic body to house all the mentioned parts.

Working principle: In working, solar panel charges the leaded battery which in turn drives 12v dc brushless motor fan

causing one directional chemically polluted air flow through the serially arranged dust filter, activated carbon filter and

charcoal filter. During flow of polluted air, dust particles get trapped by dust filter if any is present in polluted air and

the chemically harmful gas vapors get attracted and adsorbed by activated carbon and charcoal filters surfaces, which

can be burned later separately. Thus air free from harmful vapors and dust is obtained at other end of the system.

Thus the main of our project was to treat chemically polluted air which is the major problem faced by small scale

manufacturing firms with cost wise cheaply available materials like charcoal, activated carbon which is also known as

universal adsorbent and solar energy to drive whole system.

Technical skills

• CATIA;- Computer Aided Three-dimensional Interactive Application) is a multi-platform CAD/CAM/CAE

commercial software suite developed by the French company Dassault Systems.

• ANSYS;- A general purpose software, used to simulate interactions of all disciplines of physics, structural,

vibration, fluid dynamics, heat transfer and electromagnetic for engineers.

• Solid Edge: - Solid Edge is 3D CAD parametric feature solid modeling software . It runs on Microsoft and

provides solid modeling, assembly and drafting functionality for mechanical engineers, designers and drafters.
