EXPERIENCE

U.S. Army Physician Assistant with 14 years experience in primary care and

sports medicine. Provide healthcare services to thousands of Soldiers in a

clinical environment and during deployment. Document and maintain medical

records, and serve as medical advisor to numerous Commanders. Track and

provide immunizations for Soldiers; perform medical screenings for

deployments; implement preventive medicine program; perform physical

examinations for military schools, commissions, retirements, and

separations from the military; provide initial trauma care to casualties

during combat operation;, refer to specialists; order laboratory studies,

radiological studies (MRI, x-rays, ultrasound, nuclear bone scans, CT

scans); prescribe medications; administer simple wound and burn care.

Supervise and manage personnel, facilities and equipment required to

operate medical treatment facilities. Train and teach medical personnel.

Four combat deployments, totaling 50 months. Responsible for the

healthcare of thousands of soldiers and civilians (primary care and first

line trauma care). Responsible for millions of dollars of medical

equipment and medications. Continuous training of medics in combat

medicine.

Additional Duties- while serving as the Acting Division Physician Assistant

for part of 2009, was responsible for ensuring the Third Infantry Division

had adequate Physician Assistant staffing to provide healthcare for all the

Soldiers (25,000) in the Division. Prepared comprehensive tables and

charts, for the Division Surgeon, to brief the Division's Commanding

General on Soldier medical readiness for the Division. As the Officer-in-

Charge of the Medical Simulation Training Center on Ft. Stewart (2009-

2010), supervised the training of 3,000 soldiers in combat casualty care.

As the Acting Brigade Surgeon for 1st Brigade, Third Infantry Division

(2013), supervised the Physician Assistants that stayed behind while their

units deployed. Provided health care for 1,500 rear detachment Soldiers,

and regularly briefed the Brigade Commander on the medical status of

injured Soldiers in the Brigade.

Skills - Comprehensive physical examinations, diagnosis and treatment

plans, well woman screening, pap smear, nexplanon implantation, incision

and drainage of abscesses, packing, wound care, suturing and stapling,

trigger point injections in the upper back, corticosteroid injections into

the shoulder, elbow, wrist, and feet, bladder catheterizations, needle

decompressions of tension pneumothoraces, chest tube insertions,

endotracheal intubations, toenail removals - partial and total, excision of

simple skin lesions (nevi, skin tags, lipomas, epidermal inclusion cysts),

administration of local and digital anesthesia, cerumen removal, shoulder

dislocation treatment and manipulation, drainage of ganglion cysts and

simple breast cysts, nasogastric tube insertion, treatment of simple and

uncomplicated burns, anoscopy, treatment of simple fractures, splinting of

musculoskeletal injuries, battlefield acupuncture (10 point auricular

acupuncture for control of pain).

RELATED EXPERIENCE

Research

July-Dec 2009 - Significant contributor to a military study assessing

soldiers who had signs/symptoms of fever, myalgia, retro-orbital pain while

in Iraq, treating them and sending them to get blood samples for Q Fever

and Sandfly Fever testing. Other diseases tested as part of the study

included Brucellosis, Murine Typhus, Leptospirosis, and Liver Functions

tests. Results were collected and analyzed and the study was published,

acknowledging my participation.

Participated in several research studies to further the education of flight

medicine.
