EXPERIENCE

Callanan Industries Inc., Albany, NY – A division of Oldcastle Materials Group

Callanan has been building New York State’s infrastructure since 1898 as a quality producer of aggregates,

asphalt products, redi-mix, and construction services.

General Manager Asphalt Operations: April 2008 – December 2013

*Prepared and oversaw an annual budget for 11 facilities producing over 1 million tons of hot mix asphalt

(HMA) with a controllable budget of $8.6 million.

*Developed and implemented maintenance requirements with managers and procure major components.

*Provided technical support and leadership to all locations on production issues. Experienced with air

pneumatics / compressors, hot oil systems, air blowers, 480 volt electrical systems including motors,

VFD’s, automation controls, industrial burners, and conveyors. Experience working around

heavy equipment including loaders, excavators, cranes and man lifts. Ability to read and understand

electrical and mechanical blue prints.

*Hire and oversaw activities of subcontractors as required.

*Coordinated crushing recycle asphalt products as demand required with managers.

*Company representative to electric utilities including National Grid, Central Hudson, and NYSEG

managing

over 70 electrical accounts with annual expenditures of $2.3M. Responsibilities include reviewing and

approving all invoices, opening and closing accounts as needed, and acting as point person for

emergencies and power quality issues.

*Managed 5 natural gas accounts with annual expenditure of $0.8M. Work with Corporate office on pricing

and procurement.

*Divisional leader providing education and guidance to ensure compliance with all applicable MSHA,

OSHA,

and environmental regulations.

Additional responsibilities:

*Purposed, submit, design, and construct capital expenditure projects in the areas of profit improvement,

replacement, safety, and environmental. Dollar amounts varied yet a minimum of $1 million.

2013 projects:

East Kingston, NY: Increased finish product storage by 33%. Project included purchasing and

erecting a new storage silo and truck scale as well as changes to the load out automation system. $700K

Canastoda, NY: Modifications to the existing HMA plant to allow the use of

recycled asphalt products. Included was the purchase and erecting of a feed hopper, screen, and separate

weighing system. Modifications were also made to the plant’s automation and air handling system. $200K

Colonie, NY: Procure new lab equipment including a compactor and NCAT burn oven. $50K

2012 projects:

South Bethlehem, NY

Coordinated with utility, engineers and contractors to build a 5 megawatt customer owned

electrical substation. Including a distribution system feeding (2) 4160 volt 1000 KVA transformers, (3) 480

volt various KVA transformers and (1) 208 volt 200 KVA transformer. $730K

Prepared electrical bid documents for relocation of a quarry crushing operation. Project included over 100

motors with a 5000 horsepower load. This also included specifying and purchasing electrical equipment for a

new primary crushing station and wash plant. Hired and monitored contractor’s progress. $1.3 M

Prepared bid specifications, purchase and oversaw the installation of a new 400 TPH asphalt plant. $4.32 M

Coordinate with National Grid, engineers, and contractors to extend a 6” natural gas line approximately

1500’ to fuel above asphalt plant. $200K

Assistance to Vice President of Asphalt Operations: Callanan Industries 1997 - 2007

*Extensive involvement with all maintenance related activities at 11 locations.

*Created bid documents and sourced required parts often combining sites’ needs to maximize pricing

opportunities and arrange for just in time delivery.

Period Projects:

2005-2007:

Research, developed, and implemented procedures and policies to effectively allow burning used

oil vs. #2 fuel at 7 HMA facilities. Project included equipment selection and installation as well as testing

emissions and approval by New York State Department of Environmental Conservation. During 2007

consumed 1 million gallons saving over $1 million on fuel cost.

2004:

Site Manager Ravena, NY overseeing a secondary crushing operation, wash, and HMA plant.

Site produced over 700,000 tons of aggregate and 180,000 tons of HMA.

2002:

Project manager responsible for moving and setting up a 4 ton HMA plant from Sanford, NC to

Bridgeville, NY.

1999:

Updated HMA batching controls at 8 HMA facilities. Train and debug controls with plant

operator, and obtain approval from New York State Department of Transportation (NYSDOT).
