printers/copier and a complete drive subsystem to production and
market.
. Received multiple awards including Special Merit Award for developing
a low cost tensioner, a Special Contribution Award for directing a
shipping test, and a Team Excellence Award for leadership in
benchmarking the competition.
Technical skills include: Solid Works, GD&T, Creo Parametric, NX-5,
Microsoft Word, Excel, Project, Lean Development, VA/VE, IDEAS CAD.
PROFESSIONAL EXPERIENCE
Zebra Technologies, Lincoln, RI 2011-2013
Developer and manufacturer of bar code printing systems.
Product Design Engineer -Development
Delivered solutions to issues in printers such as electrostatic discharge
and a systematic failure of the media door switch.
. Delivered the plastic design and prototype for standard and extended
life battery for the pocket printer.
. Defined the critical parameters of print head pressure and torque
demand for high print quality in a new printer.
. Developed and directed the test to define the factors influencing
noise level in the proposed printer.
. Generated the protocol and directed the testing of the impact of
Health Care Cleaners on the housing materials of printers.
EASTMAN KODAK CORPORATION, Dayton, OH 2010-2011
Developer and manufacturer of ink jet printing systems.
Product Design Engineer -Development
. Developed and designed structural systems to integrate proprietary
technology into industrial printing presses.
. Designed and delivered the multi head scanner used in the development
of a new high speed roll printer.
WAUSAU PAPER CORPORATION, Harrodsburg, KY 2008-2010
Converter and manufacturer of paper towel, tissue, soap and dispensing
systems for the "away-from-home" market.
Senior Product Development Engineer - Hardware
Led the creation and development of a new product line for the Towel and
Tissue division.
. Using Solid Works designed a pleated paper towel plastic dispenser
that would fit within the confinement of a folded towel holder and
would dispense, at the wave of the hand, a metered pleated towel
substrate.
. Filed 3 patents, 2 for new dispenser designs and 1 for a new paper
format product.
LEXMARK CORPORATION, Lexington, KY 2005-2008
Manufacturer of printers and inks for professional and personal use.
Mechanical Engineer - Hardware Development
Implemented designs, in plastic, that significantly enhanced monochrome
division products.
. Directed overseas partners and vendors as well as local prototype
shops.
. Defined product performance problems and developed innovative
solutions including changes to the paper path that eliminated jamming
of certain paper sizes.
. Resolved production problems by the redesign of the rear access door
that resulted in a simplified and less expensive tool.
. Collaborated with and directed oversea partners and manufacturing
suppliers in delivering enhancements to the design of desktop printers
that resulted in a more reliable and manufacturable printer.
GYRICON LLC, Ann Arbor, MI 2004-2005
Developer and manufacturer of Smart PaperTM pricing-sign systems for retail
stores.
Mechanical Engineer - Product Development
Designed and coordinated the manufacture of testing fixtures.
. Developed new solutions to existing design implementation problems and
researched new technologies for product enhancements.
. Collaborated with and managed multiple vendors achieving desired
product enhancements and reducing costs.
XEROX CORPORATION, Rochester, NY 1987-2002
Manufacturer of copiers, printers and inks for office use.
Mechanical Engineer - Subsystem Engineer/Team Leader
Directed the Drive Team and the drive's assembly vendor in the Extended
Enterprise project. Achieved a production assembly that met all the
subsystem's critical parameters and cost targets.
. Led the first engineering team at Xerox to do a benchmarking
evaluation on competitive products, resulting in reduced design cycle
and a design that outperformed the competition.
. Managed the feeder design team in the delivery of a new design of
paper feeders allowing a new architecture in a mid-volume copying
machine. This new design maintained the critical parameters required
to meet the Function, Features, Price and Quality of the machine.
. Designed and implemented a customer replaceable feeder unit that
lowered the feeder maintenance cost to the customer. This design
incorporated a semi-active retard clutch so unique that it merited a
patent.
. Took ownership of the development of a paper drawer design that
eliminated costly and unreliable electrical devices in the drawer.
This design was so innovative that it was patented.
. Managed the Decurler Team in the delivery of a production subsystem
design resulting in a lower shut down rate for the machine.
Successfully selected and directed vendors reducing manufacturing cost
and delivery.
. Took ownership of a cost-down task resulting in a 40% cost reduction
of a production drive subsystem. Engaged a new, overseas production
vendor, guiding this vendor in the development of robust manufacturing
processes.
. Led a cross-functional team through testing, redesign and acquisition
of a decurling kit for the Duplex Module. The project reduced the
jamming rate of sheets in the paper path by 30%.
. Designed and coordinated the manufacture of the frame and drives for
the document handler of the Xerox 5100 machine.
. Developed and implemented pre-configuration shipping strategy for
Xerox 5100 photocopier, reducing shipping costs by $1.5 million.
