EFFECT OF MATERNAL STRESS AND ITS IMPACT ON POLYAMINES AND

HORMONAL INTERACTION:

More than a third of child deaths and 11% of the total disease burden worldwide are due to maternal

and child under nutrition. "Nutrition is a desperately neglected aspect of maternal, newborn, and child

health. Animal studies show that both maternal under nutrition and over nutrition reduce placental-

fetal blood flows and stunt fetal growth. Maternal nutrient restriction redu ces concentrations of amino

acids and polyamines. A polyamine is an organic compound having two or more amino groups -

NH2.It also includes many substances that play important roles in both eukaryotic and prokaryotic

cells.

Human system consists polyamines in all over the body influencing in

different ways like it plays major role in central nervous system, body growth etc. This review deals

with the study of polyamines during maternal nutritional stress .H ere the stress going to be given is

protein under nutrition, as we know that amino acids are the building blocks of proteins. Even

polyamines are the derivatives of amino acids .As the animal is subjected to protein under nutrition

the polyamine levels changes in uterus significantly causing some abnormalities like uterus growth,

development of fetus, birth weight of fetus, placental weight,intra uterine growth restriction,

placental blood flow, cell growth and cell death. Here this work main concentration is on placenta,

uterus, and ovaries, after subjecting the animal to maternal under nutrition. This study will really help

to know the disorders caused by polyamines in placenta, uterus and ovaries. Now the hormones

playing key role on the polyamines is st udied. The main hormone influenced by polyamines is

Insulin. As insulin interacts with polyamines in uterus has a positive influences on uterus growth,

fetal birth weight and size etc.
