November Working at African Barrick Gold (North Mara Mine) as Land surveyor (GIS

2011 to date: Specialist).

Duties and Responsibilities:

Survey and mapping tasks related to surface rights, land acquisition and

relocation activities

Providing technical assistance, including the design and integration of the

spatial database and providing guidance and training on GIS and Geodatabase

to supporting staff

Integration of GIS data and maps with the Land Information system, with the

aim to determine land parcels and their exact location

Implements quality assurance/quality control (QA/QC) procedures on all

products generated and disseminated by the Section, including geographic

data and maps

Establishing and monitoring of primary and secondary control points within

the SMLs(Special Mining Leases) by using various surveying instruments such

as total station and differential GPS

Coordinating and Organizing all Land acquisition activities and giving the

consultants guidelines on how to collect data that will suite our spatial

database for both (Survey consultants i.e. DILAPS & LAGISA and Valuation

consultants i.e. LET & JORONSA) and checking the data qualities collected

from field (Survey/GIS and Valuation data, etc.) and ensure its entry into

Land Information System (LIS) i.e. Flexi Cadastre

Preparation, Disseminating digital data into various formats & printing maps

from all other departments depends on user’s needs e.g. infrastructure

community maps, Environmental monitoring maps, planning maps by using

ArcGIS software version 10.0

Provide services to all on-mine departments in determine land ownership,

land use, dispute resolutions, identification of land required for acquisition

and mine production needs (i.e. mining waste dump areas, tailings dam

expansion), Ensure all site topography maps are updated as at that particular

moment etc

Carry out field surveying and mark coordinates for the valuation team(s) to

identify these parcels and to do the required valuations Interaction and daily

field visits with all stakeholders including CR (community relations),

Consultants, Government & Local Village Officials and Councils, and

Appraisers

To survey and report water levels and volume to environmental department

and other stakeholders as scheduled and to compile geographical data from a

variety of sources including survey, field observation, satellite imagery, aerial

photographs, and existing maps

Preparation of Resettlement maps to those beneficiaries who are eligible for

resettlement through use of Aerial photos and Satellite imagery using arcGIS

software

Interact with the Government Task Force (who manage the survey-, valuation-

and land clearance- consultants) and keep record of the land acquisition

progress

To survey and locate public facilities (i.e. schools, village offices, road

networks) around the seven villages surrounding the mine in the map using

GIS software

Ensuring all site infrastructures are surveyed and kept in the respective folders

for future use and Uploading and Validating of shape files (parcels) on Land

management Information System (LMIS) (Flexi Cadastre) in Land acquisitions

at Nyakunguru village (Tarime PAF Project) and Kewanja village (Gonsara C-

ore dump Project)

Development/Consolidating & update of spatial database for the area (Land

takes) acquired by the mine the time when beneficiaries collect the payments

Back-up to the Lands Operation Superintendent when he is not on-site
