I enclose this letter and resume for your consideration in the selection of an Administrator. My hope is
that this brief letter will give you a better understanding of my experience as it may relate to this position.
I am a Montana native and am looking to work in the Missoula area again
I am currently the Administrator of Braswelll’s Sky Harbor Care Center. A one start building near Joshua
Tree CA. The building suffered from neglect. Hired DSS. Brought the building out of DPH Focus.
As the Administrator for Valley Care Center in Porterville CA. No “G” or above deficiencies,
maintained 96% average census for all months as administrator and increased Star rating from 2-stars to
4-stars. Liberalized diet for residents, letting resident choice drive our dietary department. AbaQis and
daylight IQ software implementation and monitoring. Point Click Care implementation and Care Plan
review including “I” care plans.
As the administrator for Shasta View Nursing Center in Weed CA. I came to this troubled building in
June of 2010. It’s last Annual Survey was completed without an administrator. They had received 22
deficiencies including two F’s. One of these was given for dietary sanitation. After hiring a DSD, MDS
coordinator and DON we were able to convince the local college to choose us as a training site for both
C.NA’s and LVN’s. The response to our efforts has been very good our most recent survey revealed only
9 deficiencies nothing hirer than an “E” and no deficiencies in dietary. We were also were chosen as only
one of only 37 facilities in CA to receive the ACHA Bronze award for Quality Improvement which uses
the Baldridge Award Criteria. The process of modernizing the rehabilitation department and improving
our Computer and phone systems was initiated.
Before Shasta, I was the General Manager of the Commons at Union Ranch a 98 apartment RCFE with
24 apartments in the Memory Care Area.. I have hired most of the staff and have more than doubled the
occupancy since I began in June (23 residents to 56 residents) I have also administrated Acacia Park
Nursing and Rehabilitation Center, a 98 bed Skilled Nursing Facility in Modesto. Since joining Acacia
Park in late October, the team has increased census and q-mix to average 94%occupancy and a 30% q-
mix. During this time I have hired Social Service,, DNS, MDS specialist, Business Office Assistant,
Activities Director and Assistant and DSD. In addition, I was also the temporary Administrator for Palm
Haven NRC in Manteca. I assisted in their re-certification after receiving an I.J. I have two previous
years of experience as a Nursing home Administrator in Merced with two adjacent facilities, La Sierra
and Merced Nursing and Rehab Center. Both facilities were under budget and neither had citation or
significant deficiency under my administration. This is due to an excellent team effort in both buildings
My first General Managership was at the Sundial Senior Lodge in Modesto. This is a 96 bed facility
which houses a 44 bed Alzhiemer’s / Dementia Unit and has a Hospice waiver. By bringing in Life
Choice Services, an experienced management team consisting of Business manager (MBA) and Nurse
Practitioner(MSN), We increased the census 12% and actual resident rent by 18%. This was due to
proper re-assessment of care level and vendor review and marketing. I have hired and trained care giving
staff and have brought the building into compliance with both OSHA and Dept. of Social Service
Community Care Licensing.
For 5 years, I was the Site Director for the Linkages Program of Stanislaus County. This Non-profit
program funded by the CA Department of Aging, is a social service agent that seeks to help
seniors/disabled adults stay in their homes through complete psycho-social-medical geriatric assessment,
care management and resource utilization. We instituted a paperless care management system that uses a
HIPPA Compliant Internet Database to store our client medical and social services information. The
Linkages grant is funded through the Area Agency on Aging. As Director, I was responsible for training
all social workers in assessment techniques, and to maintain open lines of communication with all
community services - private, public and not for profit. I have also trained Title V care-givers through the
Center for Senior Employment National Care-Giver Training Program.
As a former K-12 School Superintendent, I have managed transportation, food service, employee
relations, teacher training, certificated and classified hiring / clinical evaluation, collective bargaining,
school board policy, fire and safety codes, federal/state grant compliance, bi-annual budget review and
audit, mill levy and taxable valuation, staff training, special education and distance learning. I have
written curriculum for the State of Montana and CSU San Bernardino. I have also acted as liaison for the
Salida School District concerning areas of compliance with accreditation and other state and federal
guidelines.
I continue to advocate the importance of the Adult Services Programs in our community. I have held
positions as the At Large Representative to the Stanislaus County Commission on Aging, Secretary for the
Central Valley Marketing and Administrative Professionals Alliance and Board Member for The Resource
Center of Stanislaus County, Home Share Program. I am Past Chairman of the Adult Advisory
Committee for the Community Services Agency of Stanislaus County and Past Chairman of STOAAC.
Past worship leader member at Grace Lutheran of Modesto.
Thank you again for consideration and interest.
