and repair options.
2007-2014 Markit / Wall Street on Demand, Inc. Boulder, CO
Senior Database Administrator/ Developer
. Responsible for maintenance, optimization, contingency
planning, and guaranteed availability of over 1075 databases
on 95 servers up to 5 TB in size excluding the data
warehouse. The SQL Server environment accommodates maximum
batch requests per second of 9000 and daily averages of 2000
batch requests per second while maintaining less than 50ms
response times for most queries even when running against 1.1
Billion row tables/ 225 GB in data size.
. Developed a Java-based monitoring and alerting utility for
Cassandra utilizing JMX as well as an automated maintenance
utility built with .Net that performs requisite compression,
compaction, and repair on column families and keyspaces.
. Designed and implemented a conversion process for
transferring SQL Server data into a MySQL 5.5 database using
the Archive storage engine, reducing storage space by 95%
while keeping the data online; this deployment also required
using advanced scripting properties of SSIS to dynamically
create MySQL tables and XML files.
. Planned and installed more than 12 multi-node SQL Server
failover clusters some which included Analysis Services for
the migration and optimization of the data warehouse which
included a 20TB database.
. Created and deployed a C#.Net web application containing a
suite of self-conceptualized DBA tools specific to the needs
of the team; decreasing time and complexity of
troubleshooting and various maintenance window activities.
. Utilized in-depth knowledge of SQL Server internals to
conceive and document a process for correcting torn page
hardware errors with absolutely no data loss; this process
was used several times after a batch of servers with severe,
undetectable hardware problems were placed in to production.
. Created a system by which authorized members of management
could grant a limited number of temporary ad hoc permissions
on objects with restrictions and audit trail along with an
automated system for removing these permissions after a set
period of time, decreasing turn-around time for such requests
by up to 7 hours and reducing ticket volume to the DBA team
by approximately 20%.
. Resident expert on replication; recommended change in
existing publications making publication modification and
snapshot re-initialization less invasive by reducing creation
and application time from an average of 4 hours to a maximum
of 30 minutes along with developing and presenting training
on SQL replication internals to engineering teams. Also
implemented several instances of peer-to-peer replication in
Production environments.
. Developed and deployed enterprise-wide SQL Server performance
tracking and reporting tool using SSIS for data consolidation
and SSRS for delivery. These reports were used to increase
performance, project growth and usage statistics, and
troubleshoot system problems for over 150 servers and more
than 1275 databases up to 11TB in size:
