Assist City of NY’s Law Department in the defense and preparation of litigation brought by inmates

and DOC employees in Federal and State Courts. Advise Law Department on DOC’s directives,

operation orders, as well as regulations promulgated by the NYC Board of Correction, the NY State

Commission of Correction, and relevant federal laws that apply to prisoners. Secure and provide

investigative material, handle discovery requests, prepare deposition witnesses and participate in

settlement negotiations.

Oversee DOC staff at hospital prison wards (Bellevue and Elmhurst) and work closely with court

appointed monitors, the Law Department, and NYC’s Health and Hospitals Corporation, in order to

insure compliance with an Order of Settlement involving DOC’s maintenance of patient/inmate

security.

Conduct legal research for DOC’s General Counsel on numerous topics involving legislation,

employment, labor law, contracts, criminal law, etc. Review procurement procedures, maintenance

contracts and memos of understanding between businesses (profit and not -for-profit) and DOC.

Prepare responses to complaints of discrimination brought by DOC employees in conjunction with

New York City’s Human Rights Commission (NYCHRC), New York State Division of Human Rights

(SDHR) and the United States Equal Employment and Opportunity Commission (EEOC). Appear

at hearings at NYCHRC, SDHR and EEOC.

Draft DOC directives and operation orders, including, but not limited to “Domestic Violence, Stalking

and Sex Offenses and the Workplace”, “Grievances” and “Reasonable Accommodations”.

Argue against motions (“Article 78’s”, W rits of Habeas Corpus, etc.) brought by inmates in Supreme

Court, Bronx & New York Counties.
