Work Experience:
Bechtel Power Corporation
Watts Bar Unit 2 Construction Completion Project
Mechanical Engineer
11/2007 to 03/2014
Engineering Closure Group/Mechanical Engineering
09/2012 to 03/2014
* Served as lead mechanical engineer in the group
* Performed paperwork closures of mechanical engineering design package FCRs (Field Change Requests)
* Became first Subject Matter Expert in the group and taught classes on the FCR closure process
* Provided mechanical support to other disciplines for their FCR closures
* Served as deputy to my supervisor when she was absent - attended meetings, addressed issues while she was gone
* Reviewed applicable FCRs for compliance to 10CFR50.59 and signed as reviewer
* As lead engineer, scoped and scheduled FCRs as they were released to the Closure Group based on project schedule hierarchies
* Completed final EDCR (Engineering Design Change Requests) Closures for mechanical EDCRs
* First group SME on EDCR Closures and educated others on the requirements
Resident Engineering/Field Support Group Within Mechanical Design
09/2010 to 09/2012
* Switched from issuing engineering design work to construction support
* Mechanical engineering design work included valve and pump replacements and refurbishments, hydro testing, pump sizing, and materials selection
* Approved FCRs from the field and made changes when necessary
* Prepared Technical Evaluations for emergent issues when encountered by construction
* Issues, if not quickly and properly resolved, would delay or even halt construction
* Managed Boundary Information Transmittal (BIT) work off program - became BIT SME
* BITs issued by ASME N-5 group to engineering - BITs had to be resolved in order to ASME certify a plant system
* Developed work off plan, estimated hours, and tracked assigned BITs for 6 month period
* Closed 80% of outstanding BITs (approximately 700 individual BITs)
* Championed procedure revisions to transition from a construction ownership to startup testing/operation ownership of various systems and processes
* Walked down plant conditions when needed, gaining extensive hands-on field experience that is unobtainable in an office
* Supported Unit 1 during Refueling Outage RFO10 for mechanical issues, worked a split shift that required schedule flexibility
Mechanical Design
11/2007 to 09/2010
* Prepared multi-system, multi-discipline design packages involving design and construction
* Major package separated Unit 2 containment from the Unit 1 radiological boundaries, saving the project time and money
* Read and understood flow diagrams (P&IDs), using them to aid in packages to isolate various components
* Created a coordination database for other disciplines requiring mechanical design support
* Database was used to manage schedule and budget and was key in helping management allocate resources
* Scoped historical design packages to ensure these changes were incorporated into the Unit 2 design
Eberline Services
Chemical Analyst
10/2006 to 11/2007
* Followed laboratory procedures to isolate analytes for spectroscopy
* Maintained a safety conscious mindset when dealing with chemicals and waste
* Ensured quality results by preparing samples correctly, precisely mixing chemicals, and accurately taking all measurements – all to guarantee rework was minimized
Other Significant Information:
* Current Engineer In Training, EIT Certificate Holder
* Professional Societies:
* Former Chapter Lead for Bechtel/Watts Bar NAYGN (North American Young Generation in Nuclear)
* Former Professional Development Chair for Bechtel NextGen on the Global Steering Committee
* 10CFR50.59 Review and Screening Trained
* Fundamental understanding of Six Sigma concepts and use of Six Sigma/Lean to increase productivity and lower waste
* Highly proficient with nuclear industry methods and procedures, pace of work, design and review standards, etc.
* Above average communication and team skills
