2012 to Folger Shakespeare Library Washington DC

2014 The Folger Shakespeare Library (www.folger.edu) contains the

largest collection of material on William Shakespeare, as well as a

theatre, a research institute, and education programs.

Head of Information Technology - Reported to the Senior Director,

Administration

Responsible for hardware, software, and telecommunications

infrastructure supporting 125 users. Technology stack included

Microsoft Server 2003/2008, Exchange 2010, AD, Compellent SAN,

Symantec Security, Commvault backup, Office 2007

Upgraded network bandwidth, backup systems, phone system, and

desktop systems

Worked with new Digital Access team to support web-based access to

texts and other digitized materials

Introduced new telecommunication tools for meetings, teaching, and

public access to materials

Managed the selection, training, and migration from multiple

databases to a single system (Tessitura) to support development and

performance teams

2008 to Apex Learning Inc. Seattle WA

2012 Apex Learning (www.apexlearning.com) develops a range of online

courses for high school students, with a focus on literacy and

at-risk students. Delivery is through a SaaS application.

VP Technology - Reported to the CEO and member of the Executive

Committee.

Managed software development, production systems (MS .NET/MSSQL/C#

stack) and internal business systems (MS Office,Exchange,

Salesforce). Average annual budget was $4M/year

Worked with Level 1 vendors (Cisco, Dell, F5, HP/3Par) to build and

maintain enterprise-quality hardware and network infrastructure and

disaster recovery systems

Completed replacement of backend services tier, added data

warehousing service, developed user interface upgrades, created new

security features, and enhanced many existing features in the

learning management system (LMS)

Developed and implemented new customer support and internal

corporate IT support processes with Salesforce.com solution and

JIRA issue tracking software

1999 to Cengage Gale (was Thomson Gale) Farmington Hills, MI

2007 Cengage Gale (www.gale.cengage.com) is a major vendor of aggregated

periodicals, e-books, PDF and image-based products, and journals

for academic, public, and special libraries. Delivery is through a

SaaS application.

Senior Director, Product Platforms - Reported to VP Technology and

Executive Committee:

Responsible for a $3.4M program to migrate online applications to a

new technology platform (Linux/Apache/Lucene)

Worked with stakeholders and developers to turn high level

requirements into engineering designs and introduced prototypes

with offshore vendors to speed development process

Senior Director, Engineering - Reported to the Managing Director:

Two years directing a$21M technology development program and

software asset portfolio for Thomson Learning in Zug, Switzerland.

Reduced annual operating expenses by $500K in 2002 and $200K in

2003 negotiating with ISP vendors. Revised software deployment

processes and instituted stricter change management operations

Took over Help Desk staff in 2003 and improved call response time

by educating staff on the most common issues and solutions based on

existing call logs

1995 to National Geographic Interactive Washington, DC

1999 National Geographic Interactive (www.nationalgeographic.com) was

formed in 1995 to further the Society's publishing efforts and

introduce CD-ROM and web-based products.

Vice President of Operations - Reported to Senior VP Electronic

Publishing

Managed all software development and hosting operations for the

Interactive Group and built out staff to support growing audience

with P/L responsibility for a $6.5M operating budget

Worked with editorial team to manage the production of interactive
