10/2013

Discovered the salting-in/out effects on the molecular conformational change,

successfully applied this theory on ultrasonic degradation of polymers in

dissolved or suspended phase. Quantified the rheological properties of

sonication treated solutions, built degradation kinetics models, predicted and

optimized the degradation procedure.

Evaluated the influence of specific functional groups on the molecular chain's

stability and degradation efficiency by preparing modified/denatured polymers,

testing molecular thermal stabilities, calculating degradation kinetics.

Collaborated with Nestl USA on coffee beverage study. Developed an efficient

way on degradation, isolation, and recycling of waste coffee grounds (WCGs),

provided a potential and commercial use of WCGs.

Maintained DLS, zeta potential, UV-Vis, laser counter, viscometry, and

ultrasound equipments. Trained 10+ collaborators from Chemical Engineering,

Chemistry, Physics, Macromolecule Science, Earth Science, etc.

Trouble shoot problems and repaired equipments. Analyzed root causes for

technical problems based on structural-property relationships, proposed action

plans for improvement, provided instructions for analytical methods.

Research Assistant, Case Center for Imaging Research, CWRU, 08/2008 -

Cleveland, OH 07/2010

Designed a novel radiosynthesis strategy of C-11 used for radiolabelling amine

compounds and peptides. Investigated and validated the radiolabeling sites on a

series of peptides through LC/MS and MS/MS analysis.

Developed and synthesized a C-11 labeled radiotracer ([11C]SU11274) used as the

mesenchymal-epithelial transition (MET) receptor for in vivo imaging study

(PET).

Prepared 3 species of C-11 and F-18 labeled novel drugs for the University

Hospitals' in vivo imaging study of myelin pathology and in vivo evaluation of

cancer chemotherapy through PET and MRI.

Cooperated with Siemens' PETNET Solutions in novel radiosynthesis method

development. Developed a radiosynthesis strategy for C-11 labeled benzaldehyde

preparation with less steps, and higher radiochemical yields.

Participated in 4-grant applications (NIH, NMSS, MRF, CCTRC) and assisted

budget planning. Prepared 2 CMC protocols for new drug's IND and RDRC approvals

from FDA.

Managed the radiopharmaceutical lab facility, operated and maintained 10+

equipments, including HPLC, FT-IR, GC, cyclotron, and automatic radiosynthesis

module, etc. Responsible for laboratory safety, prepared 6 hygiene and safety

Developed and explored the first Pd(II)-catalyzed cross-coupling reaction of

simple arenes via C-H activation with high selectivity, validated the catalysis

mechanism through KIE study, optimized reaction conditions to increase TON.

Developed and explored the first Pd(II)-catalyzed cross-coupling reaction of

p-Xylene via regioselective C-H activation (SP2-SP3/SP2-SP2), validated two

catalysis routes through KIE study.

Developed a novel Fe(III)-catalyzed alkenylation of simple arenes with high

yields to replace noble/rare metal catalysts, explored the reaction scope,

confirmed reaction mechanism through the kinetics and thermodynamics studies.

Participated in NSFC grant application. Responsible for budget planning, new

instrument purchase, testing, and justification reports. Maintained laboratory

facilities, including 2 GCs, HPLC, and 5 laboratory computers, proposed and

implemented lab policies & rules, trained both internal group members and
