EMPLOYMENT HISTORY

Microbiology Supervisor

Good Shepherd Medical Center, Longview, Texas 8-2007-Present

Supervise microbiology section of 425 bed medical center in east Texas. The section is a full service clinical microbiology lab handling routine, blood, anaerobic, mycology, and mycobacterial cultures, parasitology, limited virology, and limited PCR DNA detection. The section currently processes about 60,000 cultures per year, and performs rapid tests for Clostridium difficile antigen and toxin, RSV, Cryptococcal antigen, Heliobacter pylori antigen, Influenza A & B, Shiga Toxin detection, Legionella and Rotovirus antigen detection, and Giardia/Cryptosporidium antigen. The section utilizes the BactAlert blood culture system, Siemens Walkaway 96, Roche Cobas Amplicor, BD Affirm, and Genzyme AccuProbe. It has a BSL level 2 biological hood. Supervise seven employees and am responsible for employee evaluations, revision or writing of section procedures, ordering of supplies, monitoring all quality control, and daily time on the bench. Am member of the Hospital Infection Control Committee. The lab is CAP and JCAH accredited.

Microbiology Supervisor

VA Medical Center, Oklahoma City, Oklahoma 3-3-2006 to 8-2007

Supervise microbiology section in a major medical center within the Veterans Administration Medical System. The section is a full service clinical microbiology department handling routine, blood, anaerobic, mycology, and mycobacterial cultures, plus serology and limited parasitology. I utilized BactAlert blood culture system, Vitek2, Vista computer system, and a BSL level 3 biological safety hood. Supervised five employees, and the section is CAP and JCAH accredited.

Microbiology Supervisor

Jefferson Regional Medical Center, Pine Bluff, Arkansas 4-1980 to 3-2006

Supervisor-Technical Specialist of microbiology lab of 470 bed regional medical center serving southeast Arkansas. The section is a full service micro lab processing routine, blood, anaerobic, fungal, and mycobacterial cultures, parasitology, MIC sensitivity testing, and numerous rapid and specialized tests. Utilize Microscan Walkaway 96, BactAlert blood culture system, and Midas automated stainer. Have supervised eight employees and am responsible for inventory and ordering of all reagents and supplies. Member of hospital Infection Control, Antibiotic Usage, and Quality Assurance committees, as well as contact person in the National Laboratory Response Network. Involved in the training of medical technology students with the University of Arkansas School of Health Related Professions. Assisted the computer installation of microbiology in our LIS (Dynacorp). JCAH and the Arkansas State Health Department accredit the hospital.
