WORK EXPERIENCE

BHEL- EDN (Bharat Heavy Electricals Limited-Electronics Division,

Bangalore, India) Feb 2008 - Jul 2012

. Commissioning engineer: Responsible for the commissioning, trouble

shooting of Excitation system (brushless excitation system and static

excitation system) up to 500 MW generators and for synchronous motors

and retrofitting of excitation systems in gas/thermal/hydro power

plants which needed travelling up to 80 % to state owned and National

Thermal Power Corporation(NTPC) power plants.

. It involved commissioning of digital excitation systems,

synchronization of generator to the grid, PID tuning by step test,

limiters and Power system stabilizer (PSS) online testing and tuning,

telephonic support for trouble shooting. I worked on equipments like

AVR, LCI for gas turbine, synchronization circuits/ panels, generator

protection, auxiliary and excitation transformer testing, HMI for

generator controls, PLC, GCB, and other measuring and metering systems

of the power plant.

. Working with wiring and single line diagrams, submitting site

commissioning and test reports to customer, HV tests of panels,

troubleshooting /faultfinding during testing of panels and customer

inspection, planning commissioning activities and schedule so as to

meet deadlines, hands on experience of working with DMM,Doble /omicron

kits, oscilloscopes/ high speed recorders.

. Commissioning of maxDNA PLC for power plant automation required for

turbine controls, auto synchronizers, automatic plant start-up and

shut down logic. Configuring the HMI for excitation system operation

from remote and local operations as per customer needs.

. Test run of the IGBT based drives used in traction application.

. Commissioned and developed control logics for excitation system

operation with LCI starting gas turbines at BHEL EDN.

. Projects at BHEL EDN: Team member of the design group for excitation

system required for Brushless Exciter Response Test Bed.

inverter system using PLECS.

Transmission line Design and analysis under the guidance of Prof. G. Karady

Jan 2013-April 2013

Designed a 500 kV transmission line including the line route selection,

tower and inventory calculation, electric and magnetic field calculation,

audible noise and interference calculation using Mathcad. Designed the

lightning protection for the line and performance analysis of the same was

done.

Analysis of a simulated Arizona power system environment under the guidance

of Prof G. Heydt Nov 2012

Analysed a simulated power system using PowerWorld to determine the level

of Photovoltaic injection possible at Gila Bend .Performed N-1 contingency

analysis and transient stability analysis using Power World simulator.

Project on electrical transients in Power Systems under the guidance of

Performed optimization of switching resistance for circuit breaker to

minimize the switching generated transients for a 500 kV line.
