PROFESSIONAL EXPERIENCE
Bank of America, New York, NY 01/2010 -
02/2014
Primary DBA for critical databases in equity line of business. Responsible
for efficient, trouble-free and secure functioning of these databases. To
fulfill the corporate objective of keeping hardware and software systems on
the latest versions, worked on the following projects:
* Migration of RAM reporting framework databases from 10g to 11g on new
hardware. Golden gate was used for migration of data and Real
application testing (RAT) for performance testing. Moved away from
various custom stats gather scripts and some locked stats in 10g to
vanilla weekly full and daily incremental stats gather methods in 11g.
Used Linux' huge memory pages for improved performance; resolved
database performance issues and automated data purges; RMAN active
duplicate was used to build the dataguard database; implementing
interval partitioning.
* Working on RAT testing for migration of other RAM (Risk Analysis and
Management) databases; Steering workload captures in 10g and replays
in 11g; Reviewing replay and awr diff reports; Working with Oracle's
development team to resolve unique issues like heavy use of sequences
and replay of virtual private database (vpd) driven sql's.
* Created few 2-node 11.2.0.3 RAC databases for an ongoing migration
project - the database will be run on one node. This configuration
replaces Veritas Cluster Software (VCS), which is a licensed product.
Also, Linux's native udev has been used in place of Oracle's ASM
libraries. ASM's DBFS is being used to keep application related
scripts and external files in synch between RAC nodes and with 2-node
RAC dataguard DR hosts.
* Built a 3-node 11gR2 RAC standby database for 3-node RAC primary for a
project for the infrastructure team. Also set-up Golden Gate
replication from the OLTP database to the reporting database for one
schema.
* Provided production support for a 5-node 10.2.0.5 RAC database.
Resolved configuration issues related to node restarts; worked on
resolving performance issues related to global cache and index
contention waits.
* Dataguard is a DR solution that is preferred over licensed SRDF
technology. Maintained many existing dataguard setups as well as built
some new ones. Tuned log apply performance; Implemented real-time redo
apply for a few existing standby databases; modified gap monitoring
script for multi-thread operation in a RAC configuration; Configured
3DNS for failover to DR - as opposed to ldap.
* Upgraded a stand-alone ASM database from 10g to 11g; Upgraded some
databases from 9i and 10g to 11g; Have setup flashback recovery and
RMAN backup to FRA and then to tape; Have worked on performance issues
encountered after migration; used SQL Profile to tune sqls; Used sqlt
and SQL plan management as well to stabilize execution plans.
* Applied PSU, SPU and one-off patches for standalone, ASM and RAC
databases; Installed OEM grid control agents for the databases; Set up
single sign on for some databases; Performed regular security reviews
and hardening of the databases.
* Worked with log miner and setup scripts to get sqls for the
application team.
* Planned migration of databases from the tri-state datacenters to bank
datacenters; documented for the team the steps for various migration
methodologies; Migrated a 10g database with traditional storage on Sun
to ASM on Linux using transportable tablespace method; Migrated a
10.2.0.5 RAC database to another location and updated CRS
configuration.
GMAC Financial Services, Ft. Washington, PA 06/2008 -
12/2009
Senior DBA
* Primary DBA for a few databases; charged with enhancing performance
and planning and supporting major releases for these databases.
* Primary DBA also for the database behind ditech.com. The setup
included a reporting database replicated from the production one by
logical dataguard. I was responsible for keeping the prod and the
model pairs in synch.
* Worked on memory tuning and trouble-shooting listener configuration
for RAC instances. Applied CPU patches to RAC databases.
* Managed replication issues for a streams database, while on-call.
Worked on setting up a 2-way streams replication.
* Worked extensively on the Data Center Consolidation project. Migrated
databases by SRDF copy and restore and by export / import.
* Worked on upgrading many databases to 10g and also on applying CPU
patches.
* Working on creating and deploying database audit scripts for Sox
compliance.
* Created database recovery plans for the Big Bang DR tests.
* Installed db control clients on oracle servers and the client and plug-
in on SQL server work-stations.
* Wrote or enhanced a few shell scripts for monitoring and for running
database maintenance jobs and backups.
Lehman Brothers, Jersey City, NJ 03/2007 -
05/2008
Senior DBA
Member of a 5-person Oracle DBA team; primary DBA for about 20 production
databases; have handled critical projects in this highly automated
environment.
* Migrated a mission critical database to a faster Sun Solaris machine;
migrated the same database to Linux. Also migrated the physical
dataguard setup - conducted DR test for the standby database. Worked
with Sybase DBA's to migrate DC - the interface to facilitate
replication of a few tables from Sybase databases. Tuned RMAN
parameters to increase throughput and to reduce CPU peak for disk
backups. Installed, configured and used Performance Analyzer from
quest.
* Managed regular releases in QA, Staging and production for a few
Shareplex-replicated databases; spearheaded effort to upgrade about 10
databases for this application from Oracle 9i on Solaris 8 to Oracle
10g on Solaris 10; upgraded Shareplex from version 5.1 to 5.3; set up
multiple targets for the same source. Tuned memory pools after
upgrading to 10g. Setup streams between the US databases and the ones
at other geographical locations.
* Administered about 20 databases for Peoplesoft-based applications;
resolved performance problems by streamlining analyze methods and
schedules. Implemented a way to gather statistics for staging tables.
* Implemented partitions in another set of databases; cached a few
tables to improve query performance. Tuned to reduce wait times in a
reporting database.
* Used a new 10g feature - automatic shared memory management - in a few
upgraded and new databases; setup browser-based dbcontrol for
reporting health metrics.
* Wrote and modified Unix shell and Perl scripts for database
maintenance.
* Worked with vendors like Quest Software and Oracle Corporation for
resolving production issues.
* Conducted SRDF based DR tests.
* Used I-watch for historical sql recording and OEM and DBArtisan for
database administration and query tuning.
* Forecasted storage growths and coordinated storage budgeting,
requisitions and allocations.
* Set up and monitored autosys jobs.
* Mentored and provided technical guidance to junior members and to the
off-site team.
AT&T, Middletown, NJ 06/2006 - 02/2007
Team-Lead of 5 Tech Mahindra DBAs'
Worked for DBOR group, which maintains and enhances a set of data gateways
to run this telecom giant's business. Individually responsible for end-to-
end configuration and maintenance of a few application databases:
* Streamlined the transition of a set of databases from a vendor's care
to the company's folds - built structure, developed and implemented
procedures.
* Oversaw upgrading of 5 databases from 8.1.7.4 to 9.2.0.6 in UAT and in
production. Personally updated the Sun cluster configuration and
tested it for fail-over and fail-back. Maintained oracle advanced
replication set-up between 2 pairs of databases. Fine-tuned oracle
system parameters.
* Installed, configured and administered Oracle 10.2.0.1 Real
Application Cluster (RAC) on Sun Solaris 9; Coordinated with system
administrators to configure high-speed interconnect; Used utilities
like srvctl.
* Created and maintained materialized views and defined fast, complete
and force refresh jobs to support replications.
* Configured connection manager (CMAN) from version 10.2.0.1 to provide
database connectivity to the off-shore team that is outside the
secured environment.
* Setup and configured RDA and Apache web server for a test database.
The RDA report runs on cron intervals and can be viewed on a web
browser.

design, implementation, testing and deployment stages. Used TOAD for
object viewing and creation and SCME for version control. Tuned
application sql queries.
* Provided support via war-rooms (conference call bridges) during
