Job Experience:
32 years teaching at the preschool level, 10 years as an associate teacher and 21 as a
head teacher overseeing 11 staff members and up to 78 children in 3 separate classes. This job
involved planning and producing projects specific for the 3, 4, and 5 year-old classes. . I
developed children ‘s math and language programs and directed the nutrition (cooking) class
with 25 5 year old students. I have also taught fine motor activities with the 3 year olds as
well as taking part in the instruction and implementation of the Handwriting Without Tears
curriculum.
8 Years as an independent crafts person, producing and merchandising home made art
items to sell at local crafts fairs.
11 years as a youth paper route advisor. This position involved finding hiring and
training young people to deliver an early morning newspaper route. It also involved
supervision and training as well as paying up to as many as 22 young adults and also handling
customer complaints
6 years as a Boy Scout den leader, organizing and planning activities for young boys
each week.. I was also very involved with my children’s schools serving on the PTA board,
chairing the children’s Christmas boutique. I was also involved twice for grad night at San
Ramon High School. I have also been a room mother MANY times.
2 years of bookkeeping experience with Cleanco Cleaners in Pleasant Hill, Ca. This
involved handling direct billing to over 400 customers on a monthly basis.
Grants:
1. In 2002 I was awarded a grant from First Five for a proposed curriculum project
with an emphasis on nursery rhymes. As a result,, over $3000. went into developing
curriculum, designing masters, costumes for each rhyme as well as a component for the
student to take home on a weekly basis for reinforcement of that week’s rhyme. I have used
this program for over 7 years, to rave reviews from parents.
2. In 2005 I was awarded a grant from the Contra Costa Childcare Counsel and First
Five. As a result I received funds to purchase materials for the Raising A Reader Program to
my classroom (Pre-K) As a result, the parents raised an additional $11,000. to purchase the
program for all 3 other classrooms. It is a program, which promotes literacy in young children
through the use of rotating book bags as well as a presentation by the local children’s librarian
to talk about what is available for check –out during the summer when the book bag program
ended. The children loved the idea of taking home a different book bag each week.
3. In 2005 I was awarded a grant from the Contra Costa Childcare council to purchase
materials for the special needs children in my classes.
Interests
I am a well –seasoned worldwide traveler.. I am also interested in photography, scrap
booking, crafts, art, sewing and quilting. (and travel)
Personal Info: I have two grown sons but no grandchildren yet. I have lived in Danville/San
Ramon area since age 7, moving to California from Seattle Washington. I am active with
activities with an investment club, a quilting group as well as currently taking part in Kaiser
Hospital’s Weight Management Program (48 lbs to date). I am also a member of the Child
Care Alliance in Contra Costa County. I attended CSU East Bay in Concord/Hayward working
toward a Masters in Education with an emphasis on Early Childhood Education. I am curently
taking classes at Pacific Oaks to finish my MEd, early in 2014. I have also 49 ECE units
beyond my degrees to my credit from taking classes at the junior college level.
