TIMOTHY S. MCFARLAIN, COSS, OSHT, ASHM
PHILOSOPHY
. I believe that safety is a calling, not just a job. It is a true honor
and privilege to keep people safe. It is not only a professional
mission, but a personal one as well, to ensure that all personnel that
come to work, go home to their families the same way they came to work -
alive, breathing, and not bleeding. Knowledge that I have gained over
the last 13 years in the Oil and Gas Drilling industry have been
instrumental in accomplishing this feat.
It is my firm belief that excellent safety attitudes and focus are
paramount in the work environment. This is not only instrumental in
keeping personnel safe, it also reduces cost and keeps projects on
schedule for clients in whom I represent. As a result, I have maintained
a zero recordable/lost time incident rate in 7 years while serving
clients in safety supervisory billets.

to fill gaps in client safety program, and equipment or
engineering/administrative controls in order to make work locations safer
for employees.

and contractor supervisors in an effort to enhance daily operational
productivity, while maximizing employee safety and minimizing client
losses.
. Perform daily walk-around on drilling locations to observe safe/unsafe
acts, behaviors, or conditions. Utilize Stop Work Authority when
necessary, in order to notify personnel of unforeseen danger or unsafe

advisement in order to help employees understand the hazard associated
with these issues and how to correct them, or positive reinforcement for
following policies/procedures/working safely.

Work-Authority when necessary. Utilize gaps identified as an opportunity
to assist in the revision of JSAs in order to cover gap areas before

work requiring permits are properly documented. Confirm that energy
source lines have been walked in order to verify that effected lines are
properly locked out, tagged, isolated, blinded, and that energy has been
eliminated from such lines, prior to the issuance of required permit, in
order for personnel to safely work on equipment. Ensure that environments
that require continuous monitoring of atmospheres (i.e. Hot Work,
Confined Space) are being performed.

drill meetings in order to find weak points and investigate ways to
improve responses of drills.
