EMPLOYMENT HISTORY:
Quicksilver Connections, Port Douglas, Qld
Position: Engineering Workshop Manager Oct 2013
Engineering Supervisor
Vessel Engineer
Heavy Vehicle Coach Mechanic 2007
Job role I started with Quicksilver as the heavy vehicle coach mechanic
that included 10 single axle 52 seat coaches, two smaller 21 seat coaches
and also included repairing and servicing the workshop vehicles.
After two years I was approached to fill the role of Quicksilver workshop
supervisor's role that included instructing 15+ (diesel fitters, boiler
makers, shipwright's and electrician's) workshop staff and 10+ engineers
and vessel crew.
The role included fault,
diagnoses, instructing and refit planning of a flotilla of vessels and two
large pontoons situated on the Great Barrier Reef. After learning lots that
is needed to work and keep a fleet of very busy vessels going I was
interested in the engineering side of the industry. So I completed my MED 1
training and got my ticket and took the engineering role on all our
vessels. Mostly placed on our larger vessels that are Quicksilver V 111
powered by 4 x M72 v16 MTU common rails and Quicksilver V powered by 2 x
16v 149 two strokes. And silver sonic powered by 2 x 616 V16 Deutz.
After over a year of engineering 4 different vessels the workshop manager
resigned from his position as engineering workshop manager. And I was
approached by Peter price the head of the engineering department of
Quicksilver/Great adventures and Green Island to take on the management
role.
Job role entitled organizing and planning all refits including vessels
pontoons, coaches, semi subs, breakdowns, defects and general maintenance.
Organizing contractors work to be completed but at the same time trying to
stay on the tools to work side by side with my team of workers.
The fleet of vessels included
the following.
Two Wave Pierces
Quicksilver VIII and Quicksilver V.
Quicksilver VIII was powered by four MTU 16V2000 CR main engines driving
four Kamewa water jets through four Reintjes VLJ 730 gearboxes. Two
Detroit 4/71T diesel alternators supplying the vessel with 415 and 240
volts. Two Atlas Copco air compressors are used for the main engine
starting systems.
Quicksilver V was powered by two Detroit 16V149TI main engines driving four
KaMeWa water jets through two ZF BU460D gearboxes. Two Perkins Sabre
diesel alternators supplying the vessel with 415 and 240 volts.
One 30 meter twin hull yacht which was powered by two inline 6 D28 MAN's
with Twin Disc gearboxes and two Cummins 4BT diesel alternators supplying
the vessel with 240 volts.
One 28 meter twin hull dive boat powered by two Deutz TBD616V16 main
engines driving propellers through ZF gearboxes. Two TD229-2 diesel
alternators supplying the vessel with 240 volts.
One 20 meter mono hull work boat powered by two Detroit 8V92 main engines
driving propellers through Twin Disc gearboxes. One Cummins 4BT diesel
alternator supplying the vessel with 415 and 240 volts.
Quicksilver also has a range of semi-submersible submarines, coral viewers
and shuttles which are all powered by a range of 4 stroke and two stroke
outboards. The semi subs also have Yanmar 3TNV76 and Kubota D950 diesel
alternators supplying the vessels with 240 volts.
Experience with 16v149 Detroit R/R- heat exchangers, heads/ head gaskets,
full piston/liner kits .blowers, turbo's, intercoolers, injectors change
out, tune, fresh water pump and jabsco pump replacement's and rebuild, etc.
and complete engine replacements. Etc.
8v 92 Detroit R/R-heat exchanger, complete
engine rebuild, injector change out, blower, tune, fresh water and jabsco
replacements and rebuild and complete engine change outs. Etc.
4/71 Detroit R/R -heat exchanger, complete
engine change outs, blower, turbo, injectors, tune, fuel boost pump,
head/head gasket, fresh water pump and jabsco replacement and rebuild. Etc.
V16 M72 common rail MTU R/R-complete engine
change outs, heads/head gaskets, turbo's, intercoolers, heat exchanger
plates, coolant distribution housing, fresh and raw water pumps, injector
change out, tune. We had lots of dramas with these engines more than any
other engine that I have ether work on especially for the hours that the
engines had done.
V16 616 Deutz R/R-complete engine change out,
full piston/liner replacement, heat exchanger plates and coolant
distribution housing, thermostat and the housing's due to the erosion
caused by the freshwater pump having too stronger flow. We ended up putting
a Spiro(from wartzilar) in line of the cooling system to stem the flow and
take out any particulate's, head/head gaskets, injectors, fuel pumps and
tune, full engine tune, oil cooler, intercooler, turbo's, fresh and raw
water pump replacement. I would get 99% of all our parts from ESS Steve and
Craig Codd who gave me great support on parts and any information needed to
complete the job.
6BT & 4BT Cummins R/R- head/gasket, injectors,
injector pumps, tune, turbo, freshwater and raw water pump, engine rebuild.
Rolls Royce/ Kamewa jet propulsion units R/R-
removal and over haul bearing and seals fit back to 2 of the vessels
Scania R/R- head/head gaskets,
injectors/injector pump, fresh water pump and numerous body maintenance due
to rust and a/c work
MAN R/R- head/head gaskets, injectors/injector
pump, fresh water pump and numerous body and a/c work
