dissemination of complex information, data management and analysis, excellent communication skills.
Education
Ph.D., Molecular Medicine 2007-2013
University of Maryland School of Medicine, Baltimore, MD
Thesis title: The role of protease activated receptor 2 (PAR2) in the initiation and maintenance of
type 2 immunity.
Mentor: Dr. Terez Shea-Donohue
B.S., cum laude, Biology and Chemistry 2000-2006
Towson University. Towson, MD
Experience
Graduate Research Assistant 2008-2013
Department of Physiology, University of Maryland, Baltimore
• Thesis focused on identifying the role of PAR2 in the gastrointestinal tract during parasitic
nematode infection. Findings indicate parasitic nematodes secrete a protease that can interact
with host PAR2 leading to increased intestinal permeability and up-regulation of anti-
inflammatory cytokines in the host.
• Authored one manuscript in submission to a peer-reviewed journal (Infection and Immunity)
• Coauthor on several additional published manuscripts (such as Infection and Immunity,
Gastroenterology and Journal of Immunology).
• Acquired expertise in Microsoft Office suite (Word, PowerPoint, Excel), reference managers
(RefMan) and statistical software (GraphPad Prism)
• Presented work at national meetings (Digestive Disease Week) and local organizations in both
oral and poster format
• Acquired expertise in various molecular biology techniques including cell culture, Western
blotting, PCR, laser capture microscopy, immunofluorescence, cloning and primer design
Leadership
University of Maryland, Baltimore
• Tutored students in the molecular medicine program
• Chaired the Molecular Medicine student seminar series
• Member to Molecular Medicine Peer Panel, responsible for peer review of student presentations
during seminar series
• Represent Cell and Molecular Physiology and Pharmacology track during orientation week,
presented thesis work to new students
• Member of Molecular Medicine Recruitment Committee
