rectangular cylinders, subjected to forced oscillations, analyzed in terms of amplitude and frequency.
The work was carried out in University of Pisa, Aerospace Engineering Department.
Responsibilities:
• Forced motion DNS simulations for various amplitudes and frequencies;
• Validation of the used numerical code (Nek5000);
• Comparison with the results published in the literature, in terms of vorticity plots and energy
transfer coefficient;
• Identification of the type of vortex shedding from circular cylinder;
• Prediction about the occurrence of vortex induced vibrations (VIV);
• Analysis of the effects of Reynolds number on the wake and the vortex shedding frequency
(rectangular cylinder case).
MathWorks Matlab, Nek5000, VisIt.

specification, given by the supervisor at the beginning of the project.
Responsibilities:
• Analyzing structural, economic and performances' aspects;
• Using a theoretical model, official statistics and manuals database to achieve an initial sizing;
• Programming (in Matlab language) an optimization algorithm to achieve the best initial sizing,
according with the used mathematical model;
• Initial design of fuselage and wings main structure analyzing fatigue and stress on wings, also
using Gerard's theory;
• Verifying the second approximation sizing, according with safety requirements proposed in FAR
and JAR;
• Better Resizing using CAD and FEM/FEA software results;
• Last verify, according with safety and performances' requirements.
Used Software MathWorks Matlab, DS Catia V5, Ansys Workbench.

supervisor at the beginning of the project.
Responsibilities:
• Analyzing structural, dynamical and performances' aspects;
• Creating a theoretical model to foresee static, dynamic stress and fatigue on all components of the
actuator;
• Sizing of all components of the actuator, according with the theoretical results at first obtained;
• Verifying the initial sizing using CAD and FEM/FEA software;
• Better Resizing using CAD and FEM/FEA software results;
