1. Manpower down- sizing to derive permanent cost reduction and

outsourcing the packing of glass containers thereby reducing 300

persons in that line.

2. Revising raw material composition by increasing the percentage of use

of broken Glass pieces (cullet) instead of feldspar and sand stone to

reduce material cost without affecting quality

3. Introduction of management information system and decision support

information. Production - capacity utilization -power consumption.

4. Product coting, pricing and control on costs for cot reduction.

SAN Engineering & Locomotive Co Ltd

5. Introduction of development of full fledged costing system for work

order and job order costing for manufacture of locomotive sub-

assemblies and final assemblies in basic language in heavy Engineering

industry for capturing data through data flow from financial accounts

to costing. Jobs include preparation of error free stores ledger, work

in process ledger and finished goods ledger. Preparation of cost

sheets at component level (work orders), sub -assembly level

(grouping of related work orders) and at Main assembly level for

Locomotive costing.

6. Time and motion studies for each activity in Fabrication shop, Machine

shop, Wheel and axle assembly, Transmission assembly and Final

locomotive assembly for fixing up standard hours for the purpose of

capturing conversion cost data for work order wise and job order wise

through daily production reports by operators in shifts.
