DESIGN SOLUTION CONSULTING – PROJECT DELTA

In this project I’ve helped to produce a project proposal to the South African government where I acted as a

technical consultant, providing consultancy services.

The objective of the $400 million dollar delta state wide project was to design the overall NGN architecture. This

service was provided by a team of technical consultants which included CCIE’s and other design consultants from

various telecoms vendors such as Virgin Media, Cable and Wireless e.c.t. We proposed a Cisco based NGN type

solution which involved the potential of the delivery of next generation broadband services to Nigeria’s delta state

home consumer base.

Delta state is an oil rich region with various enterprise, government organisations and domestic user homes in.

The proposed solution was an MPLS/VPN based technology solution for the local provider.

TECHNICAL CONSULTANCY EXPERIENCE APPLIED

•Working hand in hand with season Network Architects For solution proposal

•Working with CCIE Experts to assist in design solution

•Liaising with Third Party Vendors for each phase in the project life cycle

Phase Two CCIE (Cisco)

Phase Three (Local Fibre Delivery Cabling Companies)

DWDM design infrastructure role out over National Grid Power Lines

•Cisco Hardware selection 10k (PE) 12k (P)

PROJECT METHODOLOGY

Phase One Fibre Optic Cable Deployment over existing Power Line Infrastructure.

:

This phase outlined the deployment of the Fibre Optic cable network over the existing power line infrastructure in

the Delta state. A robust, dynamic, redundant and scalable DWDM architecture is chosen to define the transport

and access layout.

Phase Two MPLS/ IP VPN Points of Presence Infrastructure Deployment.

:

This phase outlined the deployment of the MPLS/ VPN network over the DWDM infrastructure outlined in Phase

One above in the Delta state. A robust, dynamic, redundant and scalable MPLS over DWDM architecture is

chosen to define the Core Distribution and Access Layout in a Hierarchical manner.

Phase three: Last Mile/ Local Exchange Access Deployment.

This phase outlined the deployment of the Local Access Services from the MPLS Local exchange Pops to the

Campus, enterprise/ customer premise and the resident.

FTTX and BPL will be used initially due to the pre existence of the underlying physical transport methods over

the Power Lines. FTTX will be provided over Fibre Optic cables running in parallel to power lines/ cables

terminating at customer and residential premises
