Riley Hospital for Children June 1996- December 2001
At Riley Hospital, I was a secretary for the Hematology/Oncology Unit. As the secretary I admitted and discharged patients charts from the floor, prepared the charts for medical records, helped nursed coordinate patient tests with other departments, and answered the call lights.
Saint Francis Hospital December 2001-May 2003
My first job with St. Francis was a student nurse for the pediatric unit. As a student nurse, I followed orders given to me by the nurses, I performed partial admissions, vital signs, assessments, teaching the patients families about the disease process, helped with the discharge process with the nurse.
Saint Francis Hospital May 2003-Present
From May 2003-2004, I worked as a nurse on the Bone Marrow Unit. As the nurse, I was responsible for patient care, which entailed IV starts until their central line was place, sterile dressing changes for the central lines, running chemotherapy and blood products for the patients, teaching the patients about the disease process, admissions and discharges, also involved with taking care of patients receiving a stem cell transplants.
From May 2004 to present I have been a nurse on the Labor and Delivery Unit. I am responsible for the care of the laboring mother and unborn child, reading and interpreting fetal heart rate strips and responding to any interventions needed, helping the patient through her birth plan, teaching patients and their families prepare for the birth of their baby, sometimes the death of their baby and the care that follows, stabilizing the baby after the birth, teaching the mother about breast feeding, taking care of themselves and expectations for the days to come.
