Projects
Independent Study
Members:Gayathri Karupakula Jagadeesh Kumar(Gayathri K J)
I am pursuing independent study under Dr. Byron Gao. I am working on ranking the journals/
conferences of DBLP dataset. I have implemented the HITS algorithm to rank the same. Currently, the work
involves changing the algorithm, the method of calculation of authority and hub score to improve the ranking.
Advanced Data Mining Project
May 2013 to Present
Members:Gayathri Karupakula Jagadeesh Kumar(Gayathri K J)
I have implemented k-means clustering algorithm in C++ as part of my coursework (Advanced Data Mining).
I also implemented PageRank and HITS algorithm in C++. The input for both of these algorithms is a graph
which is parsed and converted to a matrix from which I calculated the PageRank, authority and hub scores
required for the respective algorithms.
Parallel Processing Project
January 2013 to April 2013
Members:Gayathri Karupakula Jagadeesh Kumar(Gayathri K J)
The projects involved parallelizing rank sort and travelling salesman problem in MPI, Pthread, OpenMP and
CUDA. All these projects were run on supercomputer cluster (stampede). Experiments changing the input
size and number of processes/threads were carried out to analyze the performance of the algorithm. The final
project was a hybrid code of CUDA and OpenMp to increase the performance of the rank sort algorithm.
Proposal Notification system
September 2012 to November 2012
Members:Gayathri Karupakula Jagadeesh Kumar(Gayathri K J)
The project involves developing web pages to capture the work flow for proposal notification system of
Texas State University.
Technologies - PHP, MySql, HTML, javascript.
Links to production web pages are given below:

Open Restaurant System
November 2012 to Present
Members:Gayathri Karupakula Jagadeesh Kumar(Gayathri K J)
Open Restaurant System involved developing an application deployed on Weblogic server which
integrated restaurant systems developed using Java EJB and Java Servlet. The main functionality
supported by Open Restaurant System were searching available restaurant tables, reservation of
table at a desired restaurant, cancel reservation for a customer, registration of a restaurant
willing to integrate with Open Restaurant System and customer registration.
Technologies: Java EJB, Java servlets, JSP, HTML, CSS, MySQL

Student activity website
August 2012 to Present
Members:Gayathri Karupakula Jagadeesh Kumar(Gayathri K J)
This project involved developing a dynamic website for the student activities. The modules of
this project included student login, registration, searching for a particular student or faculty, searching a
catalog, roommate finder, events listing, weekly polls and display of previous poll
results in a bar chart.
Technologies: JSP, HTML, Java servlets, JavaScript, CSS, MySQL
Inventory Management System
July 2012 to Present
Members:Gayathri Karupakula Jagadeesh Kumar(Gayathri K J)
Inventory management web application was developed for “Object oriented Modeling and
Design” course; used object oriented modeling techniques like state, sequence and activity
diagrams to model the requirements of the application. UI styling was done entirely using CSS,
client side validation using JavaScript and JSTL tags library was used for controls.
Technologies: JSP, Java servlets, JavaScript, CSS, MySQL
MAC Protocol to enable GPS based Air Traffic Control
April 2012 to Present
Members:Gayathri Karupakula Jagadeesh Kumar(Gayathri K J)
The goal of the project is to design a MAC sub layer protocol that help flights maneuver using
GPS instead of using the traditional RADAR system. We modified the existing MAC protocol to
conduct a simulation in NS-2 environment so that the aircrafts within vicinity could exchange
control packets signaling each one of them to move away from one another.
Technologies - NS-2, IEEE 802.11x, C++, OTcl scripting
Security Trading System
March 2012 to Present
Members:Gayathri Karupakula Jagadeesh Kumar(Gayathri K J), Varunkumar Manohar
The goal of this project was to develop a database using several database principles to trade
securities between the traders and between the brokerages. I had implemented a database
system in an agile fashion adding several features throughout the course work.
QRC tool development
August 2010 to Present
Members:Gayathri Karupakula Jagadeesh Kumar(Gayathri K J)
I had worked on work flow management modules used by internal quality control tools using
java, jsp, html with ORACLE as data store. These modules were used for bug tracking,
feature/milestone tracking features & quality assurance across different groups.
Technologies: JSP, HTML, java servlets, JavaScript, CSS, Oracle

1 person has recommended Gayathri
"Gayathri has the intelligence, attitude, personality, and work ethics that employers seek after. She had the
top performance in my "Advanced Data Mining" class. Then she enrolled in an independent study with me,
when we worked on ranking CS journals/conferences based on modified HITS and PageRank algorithms
using DBLP real data. We have achieved publishable results and I'm extremely happy with her performance
and attitude. I highly recommend her."
